Delegates burn incense at the tomb of Duke Pham Dang Hung
At the memorial service, delegates were shown documents about Duke Pham Dang Hung. Speaking at the memorial service, Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Son Qui Ward Gian Ba Huynh said that the 200th anniversary of Duke Pham Dang Hung (June 14, 1825 - June 14, 2025 lunar calendar) is an important event demonstrating the traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the Vietnamese people and the people of Go Cong.
For generations, the death anniversary of Duke Pham Dang Hung has been held at the Royal Tomb Relic Site, in Long Hung Ward, Tien Giang Province (now Son Qui Ward, Dong Thap Province). The Pham Dang family has lived in Go Cong for a long time.
Mr. Pham Dang Khoa was a pioneer in Go Cong. Mr. Pham Dang Hung was the maternal grandfather of King Tu Duc, father of Queen Mother Tu Du, and had the title Duc Quoc Cong. AfterMr. Pham Dang Hung passed away, the Nguyen Dynasty built a shrine and a mausoleum for the Pham Dang family here.
Duke Pham Dang Hung made contributions to the Nguyen Dynasty. He held important positions such as: Minister of Rites, Minister of Finance, Minister of Rites and Chief of the National History Institute, Grand Tutor, Grand Tutor, and was awarded the title of Duke.
Duke Pham Dang Hung was a man of letters, well-versed in etiquette and diplomacy , and was especially trusted by King Gia Long and King Minh Mang in diplomatic and court affairs. He was the Chief Editor of the Nguyen Dynasty's National History, the General Director of the National History Institute - in charge of compiling and revising national history; building the foundation of Nguyen Dynasty's history, preserving national history and culture.
Duke Pham Dang Hung was one of the meritorious officials who assisted King Gia Long from the beginning of his reign; he played an important role in advising on governing policies, helping to stabilize the country after the Tay Son War of the Nguyen Dynasty. Not only he but his family had a great influence on the royal court. His daughter, Pham Thi Hang - Queen Mother Tu Du, was the wife of King Thieu Tri and mother of King Tu Duc. Thanks to his talent, virtue and influence, the Pham Dang family had many people who became high-ranking officials, contributing to the governance of the country and the people.
The temple of Duke Pham Dang Hung was built by King Thanh Thai in 1888 and restored in 1921 under King Khai Dinh with architectural features and interior decoration as well as royal-style sacrificial objects. This is a rare architectural work in the South with decorative motifs of dragons and phoenixes, dragon-shaped flowers and leaves, eight treasures, four seasons with sophisticated carving techniques, gilded with red paint in royal style.
Typical in the relic complex is the architecture of the tomb of Duke Pham Dang Hung. The remaining traces to date show that the architecture of the tomb was built with compounds with many layers of different times, in which the most notable are the bricks built in the well area with symbols of the royal brick workshops in the early 19th century such as: Dinh Nhi, Giap Tam... In 1992, the Royal Tomb was recognized as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture - Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
According to comrade Gian Ba Huynh - Party Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Son Qui ward, the People's Committee of Son Qui ward has sent a document requesting the People's Committee of Dong Thap province and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province to upgrade the death anniversary of Duke Pham Dang Hung to be worthy of the province and the development of Son Qui ward.
Son Qui Ward hopes that the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, provincial departments and branches will continue to pay attention to investing in upgrading and expanding the Royal Tomb relic to be worthy of being a National Monument.
On this occasion, the San Se Yeu Thuong group of My Tho ward presented 100 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND including rice and cash to household in difficult circumstances of Son Qui ward.
