In the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese women's football team had 3 wins against Maldives 7-0, UAE 6-0 and Guam 4-0. The results helped us get a ticket to the 2026 Asian Cup finals which will take place in Australia from March 1 to 21, 2026.

After the qualifying round, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "Football always has surprises, but in our hearts we all have hope of participating in the World Cup. I hope the players continue to make efforts, improve every day and create a breakthrough. In this qualifying round, the team did not have optimal preparation due to the short time.

If there is more time, the Vietnamese women's team will hone their finishing skills better. Some HCMC players joined the training camp late because they were competing in the AFC Champions League for women, while the U20 players could not join because they were preparing for the U20 Asian Women's Qualifiers. Hopefully, in the next training camp, we will have a more complete squad and be better prepared."

The 2026 Asian Cup finals will be divided into 3 groups, each with 4 teams from 4 different pots. According to the seeding classification, the Vietnamese women's team (ranked 37th in the world ) will be placed in the second seed group alongside China and South Korea. The first seed group includes Japan, Australia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The third seed group includes the Philippines, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan. The Bangladeshi team, India and the qualifying team from Group A will be in the fourth seed group.

According to this principle, the Vietnamese women's team will not have to meet the Korean and Chinese women's teams in the group stage because they are both in group 2. Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will face one of three teams: Australia, Japan or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and two other teams from groups 3 and 4.
The 2026 Asian Cup is also the qualifying round for the 2027 Women's World Cup. In addition to the 6 direct slots, Asia also has 2 representatives participating in the intercontinental play-off round, competing with teams from other continents.

At the 2022 Asian Cup finals, the Vietnamese women's team passed the play-off round to win their first ticket to the 2023 World Cup. At that time, Vietnam beat Thailand 2-0 and Taiwan (China) 2-1 in the play-off round between 3 teams.

The Vietnamese women's team has many opportunities to win tickets to the second World Cup. Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will need to take advantage of the opportunity. The draw for the 2026 Asian Cup will take place on July 29 in Sydney (Australia). Once the specific opponents are determined, we will have a more thorough preparation roadmap.

This is also the period when Vietnamese women's football is undergoing a generational transition. Young players are gradually being given more opportunities alongside experienced players. This succession is necessary for the future, because in 2 years, many older players may retire. This forces Mr. Chung to calculate the force right now.

During the team's training session in early June, coach Mai Duc Chung said: "The Vietnamese women's team continues to be rejuvenated with many young players being called up for training. We have been doing this well since the 32nd SEA Games, so we currently have a well-rejuvenated squad as many athletes are also getting older.

Without young athletes, our performance is at risk of falling behind. Our goal is still to train, let young players get used to training, living and competing in a big team, then gradually get used to competing."

The Vietnam Women's Football Development Strategy for the 2024-2027 period sets out specific goals: Comprehensively develop and professionallyize women's football from the domestic tournament system, clubs to the national team; Inspire the young generation, arouse passion for women's football; Focus on training female coaches and referees, improving professional quality; Build women's football brand, strengthen communication, attract sponsorship; Expand school football, create opportunities for female students to access football.

This strategy is specified by a system of tasks: developing tournaments, strengthening club capacity, training players, building a professional team environment, implementing sports science , improving governance and management capacity. At the same time, school football programs will be expanded, aiming at equality in football playing opportunities for girls.

The Vietnamese women's team's participation in another World Cup will be very meaningful, creating a boost for future development strategy.

Hanoi Police Football Club recruits goalkeeper Vu Tuyen Quang

Hanoi Police Football Club has just officially announced a new contract named Vu Tuyen Quang. The goalkeeper who used to play for the Vietnam national team is expected to bring competition to Nguyen Filip's number 1 position.

In the 2024-2025 season, Nguyen Filip has almost no real opponents in the goal of the Public Security team. The two backup options, Do Sy Huy and Ha Manh Truong, are not good enough to create pressure.

As for Vu Tuyen Quang, although he is not a prominent star, he has significant experience as he has been the main goalkeeper for many V.League and First Division teams such as Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Hoa Binh and Binh Duong.

In 2022, Tuyen Quang surprised everyone when coach Park Hang-seo called him up to the Vietnam national team. Although he has not left much of an impression on the national team, the fact that he was called up somehow shows the goalkeeper's ability.

However, it will not be easy for Vu Tuyen Quang to compete for the starting position with Nguyen Filip. The goalkeeper born in 1992 is in good form and is the number 1 choice both at club level and the national team.

Currently, the Hanoi Police Football Club is gradually announcing new contracts. In the 2025-2026 season, the Police team will face a tight schedule, so a deep squad is needed.

In addition to V.League and National Cup, Hanoi Police Football Club also participated in AFC Champions League Two (Asian Cup C2) and ASEAN Club Championship (Southeast Asian Cup C1). (HH)
