Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized the important role of the Project in effectively implementing remote medical examination and treatment activities, contributing to narrowing the gap in access to medical services between regions.
According to Dr. Duong Huy Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, this project will not only focus on professional and clinical technical aspects - such as remote consultation and online training, but also on core operational factors to ensure long-term effectiveness and sustainability. The project is not just a technical support program, but also a strategic step that contributes to shaping the future of digital transformation of healthcare in Vietnam.
Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office Kobayashi Yosuke expressed his belief that close coordination between the Ministry of Health, Lao Cai province, JICA and medical facilities will be a key factor contributing to the project's success.
It is known that this project was approved by the Minister of Health under Decision No. 2598/QD-BYT dated September 26, 2022, within the framework of the National Strategy including the "Program on Digital Transformation of Health to 2025, with a vision to 2030" and "National Strategy for protecting, caring for and improving people's health until 2030, with a vision to 2045".
With the doctor-to-doctor (D-to-D) model, the project aims to support clinical decision-making, transfer knowledge between levels and improve the quality of medical services, especially in rural and mountainous areas.
Yen Bai Province (now Lao Cai) – one of the typical localities with mountainous terrain and medical challenges, was chosen as a pilot area to apply the telemedicine model. Practical activities here will create the premise for future nationwide replication.
