On the evening of June 29 at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ), the Vietnamese women's team played their opening match of Group E against the Maldives women's team.
Van Su (right) opened the score of the match.
In the 7th minute, Van Su jumped high to head the ball to open the score after a chaotic situation in front of the Maldives goal.
Just 5 minutes later, Van Su continued to double the gap with a beautiful diagonal shot after a combination on the left wing.
The Vietnamese women's team continued to dominate the game and scored more goals by Bich Thuy (14'), Nguyen Thi Van (26'), My Anh (30') and Minh Chuyen (44'), ending the first half with a score of 6-0.
In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung made many personnel adjustments to prepare for the next match against the UAE women's team.
The game was still under the control of the Vietnamese women's team, although dangerous situations did not appear as often as in the first half.
One of the most unfortunate situations belonged to Huynh Nhu when she missed a penalty kick in the last minute of extra time.
The joy of the host girls
Before that, in the 70th minute, Hai Yen was the one who determined the score 7-0 after an accurate header from a cross by Tran Thi Duyen.
This goal shows that the Vietnamese women's team still maintains steady pressure from both sides - a strength that was fully exploited in this match.
The big win over Maldives helped the Vietnamese women's team temporarily lead Group E with a big advantage in goal difference.
Coach Mai Duc Chung has also made personnel calculations to best prepare for the second match against the UAE - a match that will determine the only ticket to the final round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship on July 2.
