According to research, the contract between the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) and coach Shin Tae-yong will expire at the end of December 2023.
Coach Shin Tae-yong will lead the Indonesian team at the 2023 Asian Cup
Previously, many sources revealed that the Korean coach will not renew his contract with the Indonesian team.
But recently, coach Shin Tae-yong himself confirmed that he will lead the Indonesian team to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup, taking place in early 2024.
“My negotiations with PSSI president Erick Thohir have ended well. I have to complete my mission.
I will continue my job until the end of the 2023 Asian Cup," coach Shin Tae-yong told Best Eleven about his future.
Meanwhile, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir also confirmed the future of the Korean strategist.
“I have been in talks with coach Shin Tae-yong. His previous contract was due to end in December but there was an option to extend it.
We reached an agreement to extend the contract until the 2023 Asian Cup,” said the PSSI President.
In addition, Mr. Erick Thohir revealed that PSSI will continue to negotiate with coach Shin Tae-yong to aim for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, PSSI executive board member Arya Sinulingga affirmed that whether Indonesia will extend the contract with the 52-year-old coach or not depends on their performance at the 2023 Asian Cup.
“If coach Shin Tae-yong achieves the set goals, we will continue to extend his contract,” said the PSSI official.
At the 2023 Asian Cup, the archipelago team fell into a very difficult group with the appearance of Vietnam, Japan and Iraq.
In the tournament in Qatar, the Indonesian team will face Iraq (January 15, 2024), Vietnam (January 19) and Japan (April 24).
