VTC NewsVTC News19/04/2024

According to specialist doctor Huynh Tan Vu, Department of Traditional Medicine, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, people should limit the use of black beans, or should consult a doctor first.

People who should limit black beans

People with kidney disease

Black bean water has a diuretic effect, so people with kidney disease should be careful when using it.

Taking medication containing minerals

Black bean water contains Phytate which affects the body's ability to absorb substances. Phytate hinders the absorption of minerals such as iron, zinc, copper, and phosphorus.

Therefore, you should not use black bean water to take medicines containing iron, zinc, calcium, copper, or use foods containing these substances, which can lead to anemia and osteoporosis.

Ideally, the ideal time to consume black beans with other foods is about 4 hours apart.

People with colitis

People with colitis, diarrhea and poor digestion should not use black beans. If you want to drink it, roast it and use it in small amounts.

Children and the elderly

The high protein content in black beans makes it difficult for the elderly, children or people with weak constitutions to consume all the protein in black beans, which can easily lead to digestive problems, bloating, and stomachache.

Above are people who are advised not to use black beans. If you are in the above group, stay away from black beans.

Uses of black beans

Doctor Vu suggests using black bean powder combined with orange juice or yogurt to create a mask that helps whiten and nourish the skin.

One use of black beans that cannot be ignored is as medicine.

Cure frequent urination

15g black beans, 15g lotus seeds, pennywort, and enough plantain seeds, boil all together to make a thick drink to replace tea; or 20g black beans, 15g frangipani. Stir-fry both ingredients, add water, boil until half remains, then drink. You can drink for 5-7 days.
