9.5 point test appeared
Up to this point (July 9), 34 provinces and cities across the country are urgently carrying out the work of grading the 2025 high school graduation exam. According to the plan, by July 10 at the latest, the grading will be completed and the data will be sent to the Ministry of Education and Training . It is expected that at exactly 8:00 a.m. on July 16, the examination councils across the country will announce the exam scores.
In all subjects, only literature is graded by local teachers, the remaining multiple choice subjects are graded by machine.

According to some judges from Hung Yen, although Hung Yen and Thai Binh merged from July 1, the marking process took place from the end of June, so the two marking boards continued to be held at the two locations as before.
This teacher said he was surprised when the quality of the candidates' work was better than expected.
“Before marking, I was quite concerned that the exam structure would change, be expanded, and have clear updates on current events, which would overwhelm candidates taking the exam for the first time under the new program. However, after marking, it generally did not cause any difficulties for students who had a firm grasp of the knowledge, and few students scored too low,” said this judge.
According to this judge, the social discussion section is an opportunity for students to score points if they are interested in current news about the process of unifying provinces or touching on the idea of love and attachment to the land they live in, love for the Fatherland... This demonstrates the students' ability to apply flexibly and think critically.
In this panel of judges, there were also articles that scored 9 points.
An examiner in Ho Chi Minh City also said that he was thoroughly informed about grading the literature exam according to the answers and grading instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training. There was discussion and agreement on grading methods throughout the process.
In particular, attention is paid to evaluating the content of candidates' papers in an open manner, encouraging creativity and the ability to think and reason, avoiding imposition. Any problems or difficulties that arise are promptly detected and reported for adjustment and handling, in order to ensure the highest benefits for candidates.
For essays with unique ideas, expressions, and implementations that are different from the answers, the examiner will consider the persuasiveness of the essay to score appropriately.
This judge said that in general, during the marking process, there were papers that scored above 9 points, and some papers scored 9.5 points.
The judges assessed that the clear difference between this year's exam and previous years was that candidates wrote more concisely because the number of words was limited right on the exam questions, reducing the use of sample essays.
A new point in this year's marking is that the examiners will deduct points for papers with many errors (expression, spelling, word usage and sentence structure).
9 points are not as much as "rain", but not too little
A teacher who participated in grading exams in a northern province also said that this year there will not be a "rain of 9s" in literature like in 2024, but there will still be many. The most common score will be around 6-7 points.

In response to the controversy that the exam questions are open but the answers are closed, the female teacher said that the answers announced by the Ministry are only the framework of requirements that need to be met, not the "hard" content that candidates must have that idea or keyword to be counted.
“There is only one answer, but the students’ answers are varied. Some candidates completely equate the social argument with the merger of provinces and cities.
Some candidates saw the connection between love for a particular land and love for the Fatherland. Each exam also had a different explanation for the issue of “any homeland is also the Fatherland,” this person said.
Regardless of the perspective, the goal of this topic is not to find out who writes more accurately, has a broader and more comprehensive perspective, but the skill to solve a discussion problem.
Candidates can propose different options and ways of discussing the issue, and give different explanations, as long as they are reasonable and convincing," said the female teacher.
The female teacher added that on the first day of grading, the examiners randomly took out a set of papers to grade together and discussed the answers. These collectively graded papers were the samples to compare with for the individually graded papers later.

The grading of the literature exam this year is also very new, there is no longer the counting of ideas to score. The candidates' essays are reviewed for both ideas and words, meaning the writing style is focused on ensuring coherence and logic in expression. If the essay has too many spelling and syntax errors, the candidate will be deducted points.
“In the 2018 general education program, students learn how to correct errors in writing. This is an important skill to help students avoid writing errors. Therefore, the literature exam also requires candidates to have this expression skill,” the teacher explained.
According to the female teacher, the reading comprehension in this year’s literature exam will not have many perfect scores. The reason lies in the “strange” question number 5. This question has never appeared in the sample exam and is a surprise to both students and teachers. According to her, only candidates with good literary appreciation can fully solve this question.

In 2024, the literature exam scores increased rapidly, second only to civics. Of the 1 million candidates taking the exam, more than 90,000 candidates achieved a literature score of 9 or higher.
Specifically, according to the old administrative boundaries, the score of 10 has 2 candidates from Nam Dinh and Dong Thap.
Next, the 9.75 score level has 1,843 candidates, the 9.5 score level has 14,198 candidates, the 9.25 score level has 26,758 candidates, the 9 score level has 49,254 candidates. The total number of candidates with 9 points or more is 92,055 candidates.
The "rain of high scores" in literature is also the reason why the number of top students in block C00 is unusual with 19 people. Of these, 13 candidates are students from Bac Ninh province.
According to calculations, out of 10 candidates from Bac Ninh, 1 student scored 9.5 points or higher in literature.
Along with Bac Ninh, 1 in 4 candidates in Tra Vinh also scored 9 points or higher in literature, helping the province "leap" from 51st place to 2nd place in the country with the highest score in this subject in the 2024 high school graduation exam.
