TPO - The Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has just received a rare turtle weighing 15kg voluntarily handed over by a local resident.

Previously, Mr. Phan Van Binh, residing in Thanh Khe Village, Thanh Trach Commune, Bo Trach District ( Quang Binh ) discovered the turtle while working in the field. Mr. Binh proactively contacted the Bo Trach District Forest Protection Department to hand over the turtle to the Bo Trach District Forest Protection Department. After receiving it, the Bo Trach Forest Protection Department handed it over to the Rescue, Conservation and Development Center for Rescued Creatures.

The turtle that Mr. Binh caught is a toothed turtle ( scientific name Heosemys annandalii), an endangered, precious, and rare animal belonging to group IIB according to the provisions of Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government on Management of endangered, precious, and rare forest plants and animals and implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

The toothed turtle is a rare animal, belonging to group IIB.

In recent times, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park has implemented the “Smart Mass Mobilization Model”, proactively coordinating with local forest rangers, relevant agencies and local authorities to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to join hands in protecting wildlife. Thereby, people’s awareness and sense of responsibility for protecting wildlife in Quang Binh province have been increasingly raised.
