Implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on "breakthrough in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation", Lac Hong University (Dong Nai province) has opened a Semiconductor Microcircuit Engineering major, becoming the first university in the Southeast region to be permitted by the Ministry of Education and Training to provide full-time training in this major. This not only demonstrates a strategic vision in transforming the training sector, contributing to building a solid foundation in science and technology, but also meets the demand for high-quality human resources in the future.
Boldly invest in training human resources in the semiconductor industry
Dong Nai is a major industrial center of the country. In recent times, the locality has been promoting the attraction of high-tech investment, including the field of chip and semiconductor manufacturing. Currently, the province has attracted a number of semiconductor enterprises to operate on a large scale, employing many high-quality workers. This is the driving force for the Departmentof Education and Training to boldly invest in training human resources in the semiconductor industry.
Seizing these opportunities, in 2024, Lac Hong University built a major in semiconductor microcircuit engineering technology (belonging to the field of electrical and electronic engineering) and inaugurated and put into use the semiconductor microcircuit practice room; affirming its pioneering role in this potential training field. The practice room was invested with a total capital of more than 6.7 billion VND, equipped with advanced tools such as: KIT HAPS 100 - the leading hardware simulation platform in Vietnam, modern microcircuit design software system.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Vu Quynh, Vice Principal of Lac Hong University, said that the school identifies semiconductor microcircuits as not only a training major but also a strategic task in the development of science and technology. In addition to investing in facilities, the unit pays special attention to developing and improving the qualifications of the teaching staff such as: learning from experts in the field of semiconductors; sending lecturers to participate in semiconductor microcircuit training courses at many universities in the country and around the world; participating in seminars and training courses at large corporations; visiting and working with partners in Taiwan (China)...
The school has expanded its relationships and signed cooperation agreements with many strategic partners, including major universities, educational institutions and famous technology enterprises, to build a global research and training network. “The school has become a strategic partner of the University of Arizona (USA). From there, the University of Arizona will transfer the semiconductor training program to the school to train students in Vietnam,” said Mr. Nguyen Vu Quynh.
Meeting the demand for high quality human resources
Lac Hong University is currently training the first course in semiconductor microcircuit engineering. Directly teaching the first batch of students, Dr. Phan Nhu Quan, Head of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Lac Hong University) said that the school is currently training 20 students in this major. Most of the students are passionate, creative, willing to explore, learn and have the ability to meet the requirements of the major.
“Having a Semiconductor Microcircuit Lab is a huge advantage for students, helping them access modern equipment and carry out microcircuit design projects right at school. Along with internships at businesses in the field, students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practice and confidently meet the requirements of businesses after graduation,” Dr. Phan Nhu Quan stated.
Mr. Vo Hoang Khai, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Dong Nai province, assessed that Lac Hong University opening a semiconductor training program is a meaningful event in the context of Dong Nai implementing Resolution 57 of the Politburo. This is a testament to the locality's initiative in developing high-quality human resources for the core technology sector - the foundation for digital transformation and high-tech industry. This helps Dong Nai position itself as a potential destination for high-tech investors, attracting semiconductor production, research and development projects; thereby promoting the province's economic restructuring towards increasing technology content, added value and sustainability.
According to Mr. Vo Hoang Khai, when there is a human resource trained in semiconductor technology, Dong Nai will attract businesses and research and development centers on semiconductors to operate. This will create a vibrant environment for research, application and commercialization of high-tech products, promoting cooperation between institutes, schools - enterprises - the State. This is a key factor for sustainable development of science and technology in the province.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Dong Nai province said that in the coming time, the Department will organize training courses on semiconductor microchips for lecturers to improve their qualifications; support connections with universities and research institutes with experience in training on semiconductor microchips at home and abroad to exchange experiences and introduce experts from businesses to directly participate in teaching and sharing practical experiences with students. The Department will connect schools with businesses and technology corporations at home and abroad operating in the field of semiconductor microchips... to develop the province's semiconductor microchip training industry strongly; contribute to the overall development of the national semiconductor industry.
