Đại sứ Nguyễn Lê Thanh trình Thư ủy nhiệm lên Nhà vua Đan Mạch Frederik X tại Cung điện Christiansborg ngày 17/6.
Ambassador Nguyen Le Thanh presented his credentials to Danish King Frederik X at Christiansborg Palace on June 17.

Can the Ambassador share his feelings and thoughts during his time working in the industry and in the diplomatic profession?

For me, diplomacy is not only a career but also a journey of faith, love for the country and the industry. I believe that for every diplomat , this is not only an honor but also a challenge, requiring intelligence, courage and perseverance.

When I was still in school, thinking about women working in diplomacy, I always imagined a gentle but steadfast figure; bright eyes filled with tolerance; a soul open to the world but still firmly anchored in national roots.

Female diplomats can be gentle in expression, flexible in methods and creative in solutions, but never abandon the principles and unchanging compass of the interests of the nation. There are times when a sincere smile can bridge the gap; a gesture, a word from the heart can bridge the gap between two nations. That is also the journey that I have been fortunate to experience during nearly 30 years of working in the Industry.

When looking back and reflecting on the generations of women working in our foreign affairs with examples such as Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh - the only woman at the Paris Conference negotiating table, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh, Ms. Ton Nu Thi Ninh, I feel the enduring flame that previous generations have lit.

That is the guiding light, so that women working in diplomacy today can confidently step forward, not only as the graceful half of the Industry, but also as the strong, charisma half, contributing to creating a comprehensive, modern, courageous and humane appearance of Vietnamese diplomacy.

According to the Ambassador, what should female diplomats do to fully promote their capacity and qualities in the new era?

In the context of the country entering a new era of development, female diplomats need to continue to promote their mettle, intelligence and ability to spread sincerity while continuing to adhere to their principled stances. In order to be proactive and creative in implementing the comprehensive and modern foreign policy of the Party and State, diplomatic staff, including female diplomats, need to constantly update and keep up with global trends, grasp new knowledge, technology and foreign affairs culture, promote the spirit of innovation and creativity and be ready to adapt to the constant changes in the world, preserving Vietnamese identity in the context of globalization.

Doing this is not easy, especially when female diplomats also have to ensure a balance between work and family life, fulfilling their role as mothers and wives - something that Ambassador Ton Nu Thi Ninh once called "the biggest difficulty" for women in diplomacy. Female diplomats have to make many times more efforts to prove that they not only do their jobs well but are also capable of taking on leadership and management positions. However, the encouraging reality shows that the proportion of women working in foreign affairs and diplomacy as well as the proportion of women holding leadership and management positions is increasing. I believe that, with the attention of the Party and State, the recognition of society and their own efforts, female diplomats will continue to strongly promote their good qualities, making worthy contributions to the cause of foreign affairs in the new era.

When the Ambassador presented the President's credentials to the Danish King Frederik X on June 17, the King shared his beautiful memories and deep impressions of Vietnam's rapid and remarkable development. With the valuable baggage of good bilateral relations and Vietnam's increasingly enhanced international position, what does the Ambassador cherish during his term of office?

Meeting King Frederik X during the presentation of credentials was a solemn and memorable moment that left a deep impression on me. This was also an important milestone in my diplomatic career as the first female Ambassador of Vietnam to Denmark.

When the King recounted his beautiful memories in Vietnam with delightful eyes, I clearly felt the deep and sincere affection that the King personally and the Danish Royal Family have for our country. It was not only about official trips and working sessions, but also a journey of attachment with hearts and faith in a common future.

I entered my term of office in Denmark with the deep belief that this was not only a time of continuity, but also an opportunity for breakthrough, bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new level. Denmark was one of the first Nordic countries to speak out in support of the just cause of the Vietnamese people during the war years.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, Vietnam-Denmark relations have developed increasingly deeply and considerably. The two sides have built and effectively implemented important and strategic cooperation frameworks such as the Strategic Partnership in the fields of climate change, energy, environment and green growth in 2011, the Comprehensive Partnership in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership in 2023.

I wish to contribute to strengthening and deepening the Vietnam-Denmark friendship and cooperation; promoting the potentials and strategic cooperation areas that the two countries have needs and strengths in such as green growth and development, clean energy, smart agriculture, innovation, education and sustainable development...

I also want to spread the image of a modern, dynamic, friendly Vietnam with a strong national cultural identity closer to the Danish people. I believe that the two countries will continue to be sincere, trusted and effective companions, working closely together for a sustainable and prosperous future.

Taking on a mission in the land of fairy tales, what impress the Ambassador the most here?

I have heard and read the charming, gentle and philosophical fairy tales of the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, and later told them to my children before going to bed. Therefore, working in the land of fairy tales is a very special thing. I also learned about Denmark, a world leader in green development, happiness and quality of life. However, what impressed me the most was the spirit of “hygge” – a warm, connected lifestyle, and finding happiness in simple things. It is the yellow candlelight in a small room, the moment when the whole family gathers together, and just like the Vietnamese concept – true happiness does not lie in big things, but in people knowing how to appreciate each other.

Thank you very much Ambassador!
