The meeting reviews the agenda and logistics for the 58th AMM and related meetings. These Ministerial Meetings are of particular importance, taking place just a few weeks after the 46th ASEAN Summit with many historic results, opening a new stage of ASEAN development.
Implementing the Leaders' decision, the Ministers will discuss in depth the orientation and ways to put the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and cooperation strategies into practice. To specify the steps for Timor Leste to join ASEAN, the Ministers will discuss in detail the development of a roadmap and implementation of procedures for Timor-Leste's participation in legal documents, as well as continued support for Timor-Leste after becoming an ASEAN member. The Ministers will also review the overall relationship between ASEAN and its partners, adopt cooperation plans in the new period, and discuss current international and regional issues of top concern.
According to the program, the 58th AMM and related meetings will take place from July 8-11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, with the participation of Foreign Ministers of ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste and 17 ASEAN partners. The Ministers will attend about 20 activities within the frameworks of ASEAN, ASEAN+1, ASEAN+3, East Asia Summit (EAS) and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Tran Duc Binh and other countries highly appreciated the role of the Malaysian Chair in coordinating and leading ASEAN cooperation to achieve many advances, gradually concretizing the orientation of "inclusiveness and sustainability". Ambassador Tran Duc Binh also discussed with the heads of SOMs of the countries many specific contents related to ASEAN's adaptation to geo-economic fluctuations, strengthening relations between ASEAN and existing partners, proposals to establish new partners, as well as procedures and processes for admitting Timor-Leste as an ASEAN member. These contents will also be reported and submitted to the Foreign Ministers for consideration.
Also on July 7, the Executive Board Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (SEANWFZ) took place. The meeting focused on discussing the implementation of the SEANWFZ Action Plan for the period 2023-2027, initiatives to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the SEANWFZ Treaty (1995-2025), and promoting consultations with nuclear-weapon states on their participation in signing the SEANWFZ Protocol.
* On July 8, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will lead the Vietnamese delegation to attend the first activities within the framework of the 58th AMM, including the Dialogue between ASEAN Foreign Ministers and the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and the Conference of the Commission of the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ).
