On the evening of August 28, in the coastal city of Preah Sihanouk, where a large number of Vietnamese expatriates live and work in the southwestern region of Cambodia, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Preah Sihanouk province held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), together reviewing, recording and cherishing the heroic and glorious historical milestone of the nation.
The ceremony took place in a solemn and proud atmosphere, with the participation of the staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Preah Sihanouk province, the delegation of An Giang province, representatives of Vietnamese enterprises, and the overseas Vietnamese community living and working in the southwestern provinces of Cambodia.
The ceremony was also attended by leaders of six southwestern provinces of Cambodia, members of the National Assembly of Preah Sihanouk province, government officials, as well as representatives of the provincial council, armed forces and local departments, agencies and sectors.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Consul General in Preah Sihanouk Province Lai Xuan Chien emphasized that over the past 80 years, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the Vietnamese people have overcome countless difficulties, achieved many victories and great achievements, turning a backward country when it first gained independence into a strongly developing nation as it is today. These achievements are the foundation and strong motivation, bringing Vietnam firmly into the era of national development, the era of strong, civilized and prosperous development.
Affirming that Vietnam and Cambodia are two long-standing neighboring countries, and that the fate of the two peoples cannot be separated, Consul General Lai Xuan Chien said that today's generations are continuing to maintain the traditional friendship and mutual assistance that previous generations have worked hard to build and nurture, while cooperating increasingly closely and effectively in the cause of developing prosperous countries, for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
Emphasizing that the cooperation between the two countries in all fields of politics, national defense and security, and socio-economics continues to develop very well, Consul General Lai Xuan Chien affirmed that despite the complicated and unpredictable developments in the world and the region, the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship has always been maintained, consolidated, enhanced and strongly developed under the motto of "good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability," for the benefit of the people of the two countries, actively contributing to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Regarding local relations, Consul General Lai Xuan Chien expressed his delight that the six provinces in the consular area (including Kampot, Kep, Koh Kong, Takeo, Kampong Speu and Preah Sihanouk) attach great importance to relations with Vietnamese partner provinces, especially border provinces or provinces that have sister-country relations with each other.
According to Consul General Lai Xuan Chien, in recent times, the two sides have actively implemented the agreements that have been reached. The Consul General believes that, after the process of merging provinces and cities in Vietnam, the partners of both sides will quickly and effectively implement cooperation agreements, including visits between local leaders, organizations, businesses, expanding trade, investment and tourism connections. Thereby, not only contributing significantly to development, but also contributing to nurturing the traditional friendship between the two countries and peoples.

At the event, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province Mang Sineth expressed his joy and warm congratulations on the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, a historical event that marks the heroic spirit of fighting for a just cause.
On behalf of the Council, Administrative Agencies, cadres, civil servants, armed forces and people of Preah Sihanouk province, Mr. Mang Sineth respectfully sends to the leaders of the Party, State, cadres, civil servants, armed forces and all people of Vietnam wishes for health, happiness, prosperity and success.
Speaking at the ceremony, the head of the Preah Sihanouk Coastal Provincial Administration expressed his sincere admiration for the heroic spirit and persistent efforts of the Vietnamese people and army in the struggle to liberate the nation from colonial and imperialist domination 80 years ago.
Mr. Mang Sineth emphasized that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Government of Vietnam, along with the admirable achievements of the legislative and executive agencies and the active participation and contribution of the people, Vietnam has achieved remarkable development achievements in the economic and social fields. Thereby, enhancing the prestige and position of Vietnam in the region and in the international arena, while contributing to peace, stability and development of the region.
According to the Governor of Preah Sihanouk province, built on the foundation of mutual respect, support and assistance, the close relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam has brought many benefits to the two countries and peoples.
Mr. Mang Sineth emphasized that this relationship also contributes significantly to maintaining peace, stability, sustainable development and prosperity in the region, on the basis of promoting the spirit of good neighborliness, long-term sustainability, for the highest interests of the two countries in general, as well as Preah Sihanouk province and An Giang, Ca Mau and Hai Phong provinces of Vietnam in particular.
Joining the atmosphere of excitement, joy, and pride with the whole country towards the country's important holiday, in the last days of this historic August, Vietnamese diplomatic representative agencies in the Kingdom of Cambodia organized many practical activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

On August 26, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Battambang province held a celebration with the participation of local leaders and the Vietnamese community living and working in 7 provinces in the consular area in northwestern Cambodia, including Battambang, Pursat, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Oddar Meanchey, Pailin and Preah Vihear.

Previously, from August 18-23, in the capital city of Phnom Penh, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia organized a series of welcoming events with many practical and meaningful activities. Among these, there was a talk show with the theme "Vietnam's 80-year development journey and Vietnam-Cambodia relations" taking place on August 18.
The program outlined an overall picture of Vietnam's eight-decade journey of defending independence, unity and development, linked to the development process of neighboring Cambodia through the perspective of local experts, scholars and intellectuals.
In addition, on August 21 and 22, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia successfully organized a solemn diplomatic reception with the participation of President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen and a solemn rally to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.
