According to TechRadar, SparkKitty is a dangerous malware that has just been discovered, specializing in stealing cryptocurrency wallet recovery phrases through screenshots. It uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to scan photo libraries and retrieve important information.
Many people have the habit of taking screenshots of “seed phrases” without knowing that it is a golden opportunity for hackers. The malicious SOEX app was downloaded more than 10,000 times on the Google Play Store before being removed.
Once installed, the app asks for photo access and silently scans the entire library. In addition to cryptocurrencies, the risk of personal photo leaks could also lead to blackmail in the future. Experts recommend not saving sensitive information in photos, including screenshots.
