Women of Hac Thanh ward collect recycled waste to raise funds to help women and children in difficult circumstances.
Every early morning, many members of the club model "Women limit the use of plastic bags when going to the market" on Nam Cao street, Hac Thanh ward go to the market together. Previously, club members bought food and supplies in plastic bags, but now they carry plastic baskets to store their items, limiting the use of plastic bags to reduce waste. The club was established in 2010, but until now, members still maintain the habit of using plastic baskets to go to the market. Currently, the whole province has donated more than 2,230 plastic baskets to members and women to limit the use of plastic bags, and at the same time supported waste classification tools in more than 10,200 bins, and built more than 3,600 waste classification pits at households for members participating in the model.
In 2021, the Provincial Women's Union directed the simultaneous establishment of the model "From collecting scrap to millions of gifts", aiming to raise funds from recycled household waste, such as: packaging, cans, plastic products, etc. The proceeds from the sale were collected by women to build a fund at the branch to give gifts to disadvantaged women and children on holidays, New Year, and sudden difficulties. Up to now, the model has been replicated in 100% of the union bases, bringing practical results in environmental protection work and spreading widely throughout the regions and localities in the province. In 2024, through the model "From collecting scrap to millions of gifts", the union at all levels collected funds to implement the program "Millions of gifts to share love" with many creative ways, becoming a regular activity. The union at all levels raised funds and, together with the resources mobilized by the union, donated nearly 18,000 gifts to poor women and children worth nearly 7 billion VND; awarded scholarships, helping children go to school with a total value of 1.4 billion VND. Since the beginning of 2025, the Women's Union at all levels has awarded over 14,000 gifts to poor women and children worth more than 6 billion VND; awarded scholarships, helping children go to school worth more than 170 million VND. This model is one of 6 provincial-level projects/tasks of the special emulation movement launched by the Provincial Women's Union in early 2025 to celebrate major holidays and welcome the 13th National Women's Congress (term 2022-2027).
These are two of many good models and practices of members and women in the province responding to the annual "Women against plastic waste" movement and the theme "Fighting plastic pollution" in 2025 launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union on the occasion of World Environment Day. Over the years, the Women's Union at all levels has had many practical and effective environmental protection activities, such as: the campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean", the movement "Fighting plastic waste", "From collecting scrap to millions of gifts", "Exchanging trash for trees", "Going to the market without plastic bags", "Recycling house", "Volunteer Saturday", "Green Sunday", "Environmental sanitation service cooperative"... The models have been maintained in many branches and women's groups, not only contributing to environmental protection but also demonstrating humanity, bringing income to poor women to improve their lives, connecting the community, building a civilized and modern lifestyle.
To achieve the above results, the Provincial Women's Union has directed all levels of the union to organize many communication campaigns on the anti-plastic waste movement associated with the campaign "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean"; promote communication and guidance on the use of products made of glass and ceramic in daily life to replace products made of plastic; use plastic baskets, cloth bags, and sedge baskets to store food and necessary items; share and learn models of recycling solid household waste into useful, environmentally friendly products; deploy pilot models in mountainous, delta and coastal communes on collecting, classifying, recycling, and minimizing household waste. In addition, the Provincial Women's Union also mobilized resources and organized integration with environmental protection activities.
Ms. Ngo Thi Hong Hao, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: "Environmental protection is the responsibility of the community, in which the organization plays a very important role. Every small action of members and women will contribute to making big changes for the future. Therefore, each cadre, member and woman should be an example in practicing sustainable consumption. That is, not using disposable plastic products, increasing the use of environmentally friendly products; proactively collecting, classifying waste, recycling at the source; launching a campaign to clean up the environment, collect and classify plastic waste at the source. Each branch and women's group should be a bright spot in the environment, linking the anti-plastic waste movement with the criteria of "5 no, 3 clean", building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, spreading positive energy and the message of green living".
