Security measures have been increased across the country, with a focus on crowded places such as train stations, Christmas markets, residential areas and schools.

In the capital Prague alone, dozens of mobile patrol teams were deployed to respond to any emerging situations. Police in Prague applied preventive measures during the holiday in the same manner as in previous years.

However, police will step up inspections of crowded areas through direct and remote monitoring. The measure, proposed by Interior Minister Vit Rakusan, is expected to be in place until January 1, 2024, but may be reassessed based on the situation.

In the center of Prague, especially famous places such as Old Town Square, Vaslav Square, Karl Bridge, pedestrian streets are still crowded with foreign tourists. Christmas markets are open until after 22:00.

The city of Prague initially planned to cancel the traditional carp porridge distribution event on the Old Town Square in Prague 1 on December 24, but later decided to hold it. Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda called it a message of solidarity to the people.
