On June 28, information from Van Don District Medical Center (Quang Ninh) said that the unit had just received patient Ngo Thi N. (55 years old, residing in Dam Tron Village, Binh Dan Commune, Van Don District), who came to the emergency room with a fishhook piercing through the upper eyelid, deeply embedded in the right eye socket, at risk of damaging the eyeball.
The fishing hook was removed from the patient Ng's eye.
According to patient Ng., while gardening, she was suddenly hit by a fishing hook, deeply embedded in her right eye, causing bleeding, so her family took her to the emergency room.
At Van Don District Medical Center, Ms. Ng. was diagnosed in a conscious state, with a swollen right eyelid and a hook-shaped foreign object penetrating 1/3 of its length.
Remarkably, the hook penetrated deeply and firmly into the cartilage of the patient's right upper eyelid.
The patient was then taken to the operating room to remove the hook. The hook was successfully removed with the barb located nearly 1 cm deep in the eyelid. The incision was short and the doctor stitched it up surgically to ensure the patient's aesthetics.
Doctor Nguyen Trung Do (Department of Ophthalmology, Van Don District Medical Center) recommends that when going fishing, people should be fully equipped with necessary protective gear, especially wearing glasses to prevent hooks from flying into the eyes. If you are unlucky enough to get caught in a sharp hook, it will leave serious consequences, long-term sequelae and possibly permanent eye damage.
According to Dr. Do, when there are injuries or foreign objects in the eyes, people should not rub their eyes or remove the foreign objects themselves but should go to medical facilities for timely treatment to avoid causing unfortunate complications.
