Turkish police kill two suspects in guard post attack

VnExpressVnExpress06/02/2024

Turkish police officers shot dead two suspects who attacked a guard post outside an Istanbul courthouse, injuring six people.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on February 6 that two suspects, a man and a woman, from an organization called the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-C Front (DHKP-C) attacked a guard post outside a court in Istanbul.

"The attackers were neutralized. Six people were injured, including three police officers and three civilians," Yerlikaya said. Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said prosecutors "have launched a comprehensive investigation", praising police officers for "preventing a dangerous attack".

DHKP-C has not claimed responsibility for the Istanbul incident. The group has carried out numerous attacks in Türkiye since the 1980s. The United States and Türkiye consider DHKP-C a terrorist organization.

In October 2023, Kurdish militants blew themselves up in the capital Ankara, injuring two police officers. Türkiye responded by escalating its airstrikes on Kurdish militia positions in Iraq and Syria.
