Previously, from April to early July 2024, Lao Cai City Police continuously received reports from many victims about motorbike theft on roads in Lao Cai City. Lao Cai City Police leaders directed the Criminal Police Team to coordinate with professional teams and police of wards and communes in the area to focus on investigation and verification.
Through professional measures and the cooperation of the victims, the police force has verified the identity of the suspect as Ho Van Nam, born in 1994, residing in Ban Qua commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. This subject has 2 previous convictions for property theft and was recently released from prison in March 2024. After 6 hours of closed-off and pursuit, the detective teams arrested Ho Van Nam and brought him to justice.
At the Investigation Police Agency, Ho Van Nam confessed that after being released from prison, he did not have a stable job, so when he needed money to spend, he came up with the idea of stealing a motorbike. Nam made a lock breaker for manual transmission motorbikes, then went to deserted streets, game shops or dormitories with few people passing by, waited for the right moment, then stole the property and sold it for money to spend.
Expanding the investigation, the Criminal Police Team arrested another suspect, Nguyen Van Nam, born in 1992, residing at Tran Phu Farm, Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province, who was an accomplice in selling the stolen motorbikes of Ho Van Nam.
The police have recovered 3 motorbikes and some related evidence, and are expanding the investigation to handle the 2 subjects according to the law.
