Selling fake functional foods, a store was fined 12 million VND

On December 6, information from the Market Management Department of Tien Giang province, the unit has just fined a business store in Go Cong city nearly 12 million VND for selling counterfeit goods.

Previously, at the end of August 2024, Market Management Team No. 2 of Tien Giang Market Management Department chaired and coordinated the inspection of TH Food Business Household in Go Cong city, Tien Giang province.

Market management force checks goods at the store

During the inspection, this facility posted prices of goods but they were not clear, causing confusion for customers. The inspection team took 02 samples of health protection foods to send for quality testing.

Based on the results of testing, evaluation and analysis, there is 1 sample that is fake in terms of use value and function. Specifically, the Vitamin B5 index only reached over 68%, Vitamin A only reached nearly 54% compared to the announced index. The remaining batch includes 20 boxes of health protection food, this product is responsible for product quality and distribution by a company in Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh province.

Because the case showed signs of violating the crime of trading in counterfeit food products, on September 27, Market Management Team No. 2 transferred the entire case file to the Investigation Police Agency of Go Cong City Police to prosecute criminal liability according to regulations.

On November 13, 2024, Go Cong City Police returned the file to Market Management Team No. 2 for administrative sanctions because they found no signs of crime in the case.

On November 27, 2024, Market Management Team No. 2 issued a decision to administratively sanction TH Food Business Household for two acts of trading in counterfeit goods with unclear usage value, uses and listing prices of goods, causing confusion for customers with a fine of nearly 12 million VND. At the same time, the infringing exhibits were forced to be destroyed.
