Making traditional costumes is a long-standing craft of most ethnic groups in Lao Cai . From growing cotton, spinning, spinning linen, weaving and sewing, embroidering and decorating to create a complete traditional costume, all are skillfully preserved by the diligent hands of ethnic women. La Chi villagers still maintain the habit of growing cotton for weaving. Cotton is planted in March and April every year and will be harvested in August and September. The women bring it home to dry, then separate the seeds to get the white cotton. After drying, the cotton will be spun. To make the fabric strong and durable, the spinning process is very important. Weaving cloth with a handloom is very elaborate and requires the diligence of women. During the weaving season, in all the highland villages, the sound of shuttles still clatters day and night.
After having the desired fabrics, the highland girls diligently decorate them with unique brocade lines and patterns, imbued with the national cultural identity.
The Black Mong people have a very unique method of decorating by drawing beeswax on linen. Sewing is the final step in creating traditional costumes of ethnic groups in Lao Cai. Through many months of meticulousness, patience and hard work, the diligent hands of highland women have created beautiful traditional costumes - one of the cultural symbols of their people.
