In Thanh Quang commune (Thanh Ha), there is a seedling production facility that is crowded with customers coming to visit, buy trees to decorate for Tet and prepare for planting trees in early spring.

The owner of that nursery is Mr. Pham Van Nghia (born in 1977), a hard-working, diligent veteran who dares to think and dares to do.

After graduating from high school, in 1995, Mr. Nghia enlisted in the 131st Naval Engineering Regiment (now the 131st Naval Engineering Brigade, Hai Phong). His time in the army helped Mr. Nghia become more mature and steadfast, and was a stepping stone for important decisions later on. In 1997, he was discharged from the army, returned to his hometown, and began to look for ways to develop his family's economy .

Phu Tinh village, Thanh Quang commune is known as a long-standing seedling production area. After many attempts at other jobs, Mr. Nghia decided to get rich with his father's profession.

By diligently learning and accumulating experience, in 2007, Mr. Nghia started producing fruit tree varieties on an area of 500 m2 right in the village. He diligently studied and learned new grafting techniques to bring high productivity. He brought some new varieties with good quality to grow.

According to Mr. Nghia, for seedlings, pest control techniques account for 70% of success. Understanding that, he went to seedling production facilities in and outside the province to learn and study, and also studied on social networks and specialized books and newspapers about pest control methods. Along with applying traditional techniques of his ancestors, he invested in a water-saving irrigation system for the nursery to reduce costs.

Starting with 500 m2 and seeing the effectiveness, Mr. Nghia boldly borrowed money to bid and rent more land for production. Up to now, he has 3 seedling production facilities with a total area of over 30,000 m2 in Thanh Quang commune, Ha Thanh commune (Tu Ky) and one facility in Hai Phong , supplying the market with millions of seedlings each year.

Mr. Nghia's seedling production facility creates jobs for many local workers.

Mr. Nghia's seedling production facilities are creating jobs for 10 regular workers with a stable salary of over 5 million VND/person/month and 20 seasonal workers with a wage of 170,000 VND/person/day.

Not only helping to develop the family economy, his seedling production facility also has many volunteer activities, supporting local movements.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh, Chairman of Thanh Quang Commune Farmers' Association commented: "Member Pham Van Nghia is dynamic, creative, always searching for new varieties to meet the needs and tastes of consumers. He actively participates in the movements of the Commune Farmers' Association, especially the movement of farmers competing in production and good business. He is an example for members to learn and follow."

Thanks to his constant efforts, Mr. Nghia has achieved certain results. Each year, his family earns about 1 billion VND in profit from the seedling nursery business. From 2021 to 2024, Mr. Nghia has always achieved the title of "Excellent Farmer and Business Household" of the province.
