Considered as the “miniature Sahara” in Binh Thuan , Bau Trang is located in Hong Lam village, Hoa Thang commune, Bac Binh district. The book Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi wrote about Bau Trang, stating: “Ho Trang has two lakes, the upper lake and the lower lake. The upper lake has a circumference of 8 linh miles, the lower lake has a circumference of 22 linh miles, the water in the lake is sweet all year round, neither increasing nor decreasing”.
In the middle of a dry, hot, lifeless sandy area, Bau Trang is blessed by nature with hundreds of hectares of low coastal forests and freshwater lakes stretching across the vast white sand, giving it a cool climate. At the same time, the contrast between sand and water, between aridity and cool water that revives all things, between heat and cold creates a beauty with the fascinating philosophy of yin and yang of the desert and oasis.
In addition to its natural beauty, Bau Trang also has a famous and sacred Thien YA Na temple located about 100 meters south of Bau Ba shore. Before the 18th century, there were many Cham villages around Bau Trang. When the Vietnamese came to settle, they took over the Po Inư Nưgar temple and Vietnamized the indigenous beliefs of the Cham people into Thien YA Na temple.
Not only is it a source of water for daily life, Bau Trang is also a natural beauty spot that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to enjoy and explore. With wide, long sand dunes and a large lake, visitors can participate in many outdoor activities such as sandboarding, ostrich riding, fishing or leisurely sitting on a dugout canoe around the lake to admire the lotus to always have a feeling of relaxation and peace.
With its wild and captivating beauty, in recent years, Bau Trang has become an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Bau Trang has also been awarded many titles such as Top 100 impressive destinations in Vietnam 2013; ASEAN favorite destination 2014; Top 100 favorite tourist destinations in the southern region 2016 and was ranked as a national scenic spot by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2019.
