
At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong discussed the implementation of the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The two sides expressed their delight at the extensive development of bilateral relations since the upgrade to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and were pleased to see that the contents of the relationship are being comprehensively and effectively implemented across all six pillars with many practical results.
Based on some encouraging results, such as opening the market for fruits (Australian plums and Vietnamese passion fruit) and bilateral trade turnover growing by 2.3% in 2024, the two sides agreed to further strengthen trade and investment cooperation, striving to bring two-way trade turnover to the target of 20 billion USD and double investment as stated in the Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy (EEES).
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son welcomed Australia's promotion of the implementation of the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 in Vietnam.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides promote and create breakthroughs in scientific and technological cooperation and innovation, including the implementation of joint research.
Minister Penny Wong expressed her hope that Vietnam will continue to facilitate Australian businesses to invest in Vietnam, especially in the high-tech sector; and proposed further expanding cooperation in areas where Australia has potential and strengths, such as climate change, green growth, energy transition, digital transformation and innovation.
Minister Penny Wong affirmed that Australia will continue to support Vietnam in researching and developing new technologies, green technologies, developing infrastructure for energy transition and digital infrastructure; improving capacity and developing human resources through ODA projects and investment.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated Australia's commitment and increase in ODA budget, most recently the AUD 50 million package for practical initiatives and projects implemented in many fields in the Mekong Sub-region.
The two Ministers also exchanged information and assessed the regional and international situation of mutual concern; agreed to strengthen coordination between the two countries, contributing to the consolidation of peace, stability and cooperation in the region. In that spirit, the two sides agreed to further strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations and ASEAN.
Minister Penny Wong affirmed that Australia highly values the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN and values ASEAN's central role in the region, and is committed to promoting cooperation for the sustainable development of the Mekong sub-region.
Discussing the East Sea issue, the two sides affirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation, and respecting international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS.
On this occasion, the two sides agreed to issue a joint press release on the 7th Session of the Vietnam - Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting and exchanged a diplomatic note establishing a foreign policy consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries.
