Vespa is launching a pair of new “Officina 8” Special Editions, a nod to the post-war Laboratory at the Piaggio factory in Pontedera, Italy. Officina, which means office in Italian, in this case refers to a department of the Piaggio factory – where designers, draftsmen, mechanics, master metalworkers and test riders worked to produce the groundbreaking scooters.
Officina 8 is where new ideas are born, where the workshop saw the design and subsequent prototyping of the first Vespa, both for series production and for racing and record breaking. Officina 8 staff are distinguished from the factory by a blue and brass “Piaggio 8” pin, designed to be worn on their work clothes and indicating that they work in the most secret department in the factory. Today, the Officina 8 name is applied to a special range of Vespa scooters, the Primavera and GTV 310, which are finished in the distinctive Blu Officina 8 colour.
The distinctive industrial blue matte metallic finish evokes the industrial spirit, especially in the work clothes of Piaggio factory workers. The blue is accentuated by the aluminium trim on the front fairing, headlight and taillight surrounds, as well as the brass used on the horn slots and wheel rims. The wheels are diamond cut to further accentuate the look of the Officina 8. This attention to detail continues in the double-upholstered saddle, finished with double contrast stitching, while polished brass rivets recall Officina 8's tradition of craftsmanship.
Each Vespa Officina 8 comes with a special accessory kit, a tin box in the colour of this Special Edition, which includes the Owner's Manual. Video : Introducing the special Vespa Officina 8 scooter.
