Mazda is facing a class action lawsuit in Illinois over the 2025 Mazda3, after many customers discovered that the car's audio system did not match the information printed on the car's sticker. Specifically, some versions of the Mazda3 2.5L were advertised as equipped with an upgraded audio system with 8 speakers and HD radio. However, users actually received a standard 6-speaker system and regular radio.

The lead plaintiff in the lawsuit, Kyle Johanson, said that after purchasing a 2025 Mazda3, he discovered that it had only six speakers instead of the eight listed on the sticker, and that it did not have the advertised HD radio capability. Mazda later reportedly acknowledged the error in an email, calling it a “typo on the Monroney sticker/tag.”

The lawsuit alleges that Mazda has not taken any corrective action and has even attempted to cover up the defects. As of now, 13 versions of the 2025 Mazda3 are on sale in the US, with the class action covering the six most popular models: the 2.5 S Sedan, 2.5 S Hatchback, 2.5 S Select Sport Sedan, and Preferred trims.

The plaintiffs are seeking specific damages from Mazda for the fact that buyers paid more for the vehicle than it was worth, or would not have purchased it if they had known about the false information. The lawsuit also seeks reimbursement for Mazda’s alleged revenue and profits from the use of the false vehicle decals.
