Operating the 'super machine' CT at the moment of 'rearranging the country'

On the morning of July 2, Tam Anh General Hospital System officially operated the second CT scanner "super machine", with more than 100,000 slices, the most modern in the world, serving the people of the "super city" of Ho Chi Minh City and the South.

Dr. Ho Hoang Phuong, Director of the Center for Diagnostic Imaging - Interventional Radiology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said this is one of the few most modern CT scanners in the world .

Accordingly, the "super machine" Somatom Force VB30 (Siemens brand - Germany) is the pinnacle of CT (computerized tomography) technology, the clearest and fastest ever in the EID receiver CT technology group, with the ability to "separate images of the captured area" up to more than 100,000 slices at different energy levels, taking a super fast full-body scan in just 1-2 seconds.

In particular, CT Somatom Force VB30 with unlimited number of slices, each slice has a thickness of 0.4 mm when not needing reconstruction, helps detect and suggest very early lesions or abnormalities of only a few millimeters in the lungs, liver, kidneys... very early assessment of nodules in the lungs, liver, tumor status. AI technology supports identification, differentiation of benign and malignant tumors, early detection of cancers.

The “super machine” with more than 100,000 slices can perform 4D dynamic CT to examine cerebral perfusion and cerebral blood vessels in one go, quickly and accurately detecting microscopic abnormalities in the brain, stroke risk, blood clots, blockages, stenosis, and cerebral aneurysms. The “super machine” also helps to evaluate and classify strokes (cerebral infarction or cerebral hemorrhage) super fast in just a few minutes instead of taking a long time as before, thereby promoting quick and effective stroke emergency care.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quang Binh, Director of Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed that the presence of Somatom Force VB30 contributes to laying an important foundation for the development of Vietnamese medicine, improving the quality and efficiency of diagnostic imaging, providing opportunities for early, accurate and safe diagnosis for patients.

As in the case of Ms. Nguyen Minh Ly (37 years old), she had no history of respiratory disease or unusual symptoms. She went for a health check-up, and the Somatom Force VB30 CT scan results showed a ground-glass lesion less than 1 cm in size at the top of the left lung, suspected of malignancy.

This is a very early lesion, manifested by a slight hazy image like steam on glass. Thanks to early detection, she had surgery to remove the entire tumor and scrape the surrounding lymph nodes. At the same time, pathological and molecular biological tests were performed so that the doctor could prescribe adjuvant treatments such as targeted therapy or immunotherapy.

According to Dr. Phuong, the CT scanner with more than 100,000 slices integrates powerful artificial intelligence (AI), automatically processes images, helps mark and analyze anatomical landmarks on the film, supports doctors to quickly determine the location of organs, soft tissues, bones, blood vessels, and reduces the risk of errors and confusion. This is an important step forward to help improve the quality of diagnostic imaging in Vietnam.

Previously, the first "super machine" CT Somatom Force VB30 was available at Tam Anh General Hospital , Hanoi . Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hien - Director of the Center for Diagnostic Imaging - Interventional Radiology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, said that in just 4 months, more than 4,500 cases were screened and diagnosed early for dangerous diseases using this "super machine".

Dr. Phuong said that unlike previous generations of CT machines with long scan times and high radiation doses, the "super machine" with more than 100,000 slices minimizes the level of "ray absorption" on the human body, and can be used with children, infants and people with many complex diseases.

This “super machine” has technology to reduce X-ray dose by 85% compared to conventional CT, combined with high-quality tin X-ray filters, ensuring maximum safety while maintaining good image quality. The machine is also equipped with the ability to remove metal interference by more than 80%, so that cases with bone fusion by screws or artificial hip joints can be scanned when indicated without reducing the ability to diagnose the disease.

Leaders of Tam Anh General Hospital System and delegates attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and officially announced the use of a CT machine with more than 100,000 slices at Tam Anh Medical Examination and Treatment Center, District 7.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Christopher Scholl - Deputy Consul General, Representative of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Vietnam - commented: "This cooperation not only opens up opportunities to provide leading modern medical equipment, but also aims to share knowledge and achieve excellence in clinical practice with the ultimate goal of improving the standard of medical care in Vietnam".
