On June 28, on his personal Facebook page, Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan - Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco (USA) - shared his joy when for the first time fresh lychees from Bac Giang appeared in the retail chain Costco - one of the largest supermarket systems in the US.
These are lychees among a total of 100 tons of fresh lychees successfully exported by Dragonberry Company (headquartered in Portland, Oregon) to Japan, Canada and the United States.
"This is not only a big step forward in trade, but also a proud achievement in the effort to build the Vietnamese agricultural product brand on the global consumption map.
The image of brilliant bags of "Golden Lychee" in Costco stores not only shows the superior quality of Vietnamese lychees, but also reflects the effective companionship between businesses and distributors," Ambassador Hoang Anh Tuan shared.
The Ambassador said that the Vietnamese Consulate General in San Francisco will continue to support localities, farmers and businesses in expanding markets and bringing more Vietnamese products to the world.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Amy Nguyen - President of Dragonberry Produce Company - said that since 2022, the company has adjusted the production and post-harvest processes to meet the requirements of exporting fresh lychees to the US, Canada, and Japan such as Global GAP standards or being granted a separate export code by the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) for the US market.
According to her, the demand for lychees in high-end markets is very large, but the export process is complicated and must meet strict regulations on food safety, labeling, and irradiation treatment.
"One of the major bottlenecks is the limited capacity for irradiation treatment in Vietnam. This delay can affect the freshness of lychees and increase logistics costs," said a business representative, hoping that authorities would support the development of new lychee varieties suitable for long-distance transportation, extending shelf life, and synchronizing the logistics system.
According to the People's Committee of Bac Giang province, by June 26, the whole province had consumed more than 103,000 tons of lychee, of which more than 32,000 tons were exported to China, the US, Japan, Canada, the EU, Australia and the Middle East. The lychee quality is highly appreciated, with uniform appearance and rich sweetness, thanks to production according to VietG.AP and GlobalG.AP standards.
Mr. La Van Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province - said that Bac Giang lychee has geographical indications and is highly appreciated by international partners.
"With traditional markets like China, Bac Giang works early with the authorities of this country to shorten customs clearance time. With demanding markets like the US, EU, and Japan, the province has enough experience and good relationships to export lychee," said Mr. Nam.
Lychee is a key, long-standing crop, bringing value to Bac Giang province of about 5,000 billion VND/year. The expected output for the 2025 lychee crop is about 200,000 tons.
