Mr. Li, 70 years old, lives peacefully in an old residential area in China. When he was young, he was a big boss with a good income, so he thought he would live a comfortable life after retirement, but he did not expect to encounter so many obstacles.
Mr. Ly once thought that he and his wife would have days of farming, growing vegetables and raising fish without having to live with any children. However, his wife suddenly passed away from a serious illness, leaving him alone.

Although his children were filial, they could not spend much time with their father because they were busy with work. And to solve the problem of old age care, Mr. Ly moved to live in a famous nursing home in the city.
He lived in a large, spacious single room. However, life there was not as good as he had imagined. Although there were people taking care of him, it still lacked the warmth and happiness of a family. Most of the people living around him were quiet and shy to communicate with each other, making Mr. Ly feel bored as if he had been forgotten by society. Every day, he could only sit there, blankly staring at the sky outside the window.
After a short time living there, he decided to leave. Mr. Li realized that although the nursing home provided good care and security for the elderly, it was not what he wanted in his heart. At his age, he craved the companionship and warmth of family.
After leaving the hospital, he went to live with his son. His son and daughter-in-law were very filial and prepared a large room for him with delicious meals that suited his taste. However, after a while, he discovered a difference in the lifestyle of himself and his children and grandchildren.
He himself has a habit of going to bed early and waking up early while his children often stay up late. Mr. Ly likes quiet but his grandson often makes noise at home. The difference in lifestyle and age makes him feel suffocated and uncomfortable. Moreover, he also feels uncomfortable when his children's family often has conflicts over the smallest things or their parenting styles.
So after only a few months of living at his son’s house, Mr. Ly decided to leave. He realized that living next to his children and grandchildren was not always fun and happy. His grown children needed their own lives and living space.
He realized that a happy old age does not necessarily mean being surrounded by children and grandchildren, but being independent, happily spending time together will be the happiest.
After those experiences, Mr. Ly also realized that to live a peaceful and comfortable life in old age, there are three most important things: a happy spirit, actively experiencing making friends and connecting with children and grandchildren in the right way.
So Mr. Ly started to diligently participate in senior activities in the community and make friends with like-minded people. He often played cards, played chess, exercised, etc. and found more joy and happiness every day. Moreover, Mr. Ly also learned how to maintain distance and be friends with his children and grandchildren. On weekends, his children and grandchildren would come home to eat with him and share stories about life.
Elderly people with rich, optimistic lives and many connections can share experiences, integrate with the younger world , and learn new skills to better adapt to the ever-changing world. This interaction can enrich the lives of the elderly, help them live happily, less lonely, and spread wisdom and positive values to life.
