The serious loss of life and property caused by fires made Professor, Doctor Ngo Quoc Anh and his colleagues at the Institute of Chemistry ponder, research and successfully develop a gel-based fire-fighting product under the research component "Technology for manufacturing new generation, multi-purpose, environmentally friendly effective fire-fighting gel", code TĐPCCC.01/21-23, under the Academy's Key Science and Technology Project.
Multi-purpose fire-fighting gel products are developed on the basis of superabsorbent polymers (SAP), which quickly extinguish fires and prevent fire spread, while being safe for health and environmentally friendly. This is considered an important breakthrough in the field of fire prevention and fighting, a safe and effective solution in the future.
The fire-fighting gel product researched by scientists of the Academy is in powder or viscous form, very easy to use when combined with conventional fire-fighting equipment with standard nozzle systems. The main ingredient of the product is SAP derived from natural sources such as Cellulose, starch, combined with nano materials such as Magnesium hydroxide and silica... The advantage of these ingredients is their superior adhesion to the surface of the material, effective fire resistance at temperatures up to 1,3000C and biodegradability when used as a long-term fire-proof material.
The two gel systems VHGEL-01 and VHGEL-02 have been tested in practice, giving results in extinguishing Class A fires (solids) quickly in less than 300 seconds, while providing superior surface protection on materials such as wood, canvas, and straw. The product contains biodegradable active ingredients and does not create toxic residues in the soil as well as limiting the emission of toxic gases.
According to Professor, Dr. Ngo Quoc Anh, Head of the research component "Technology for manufacturing new generation, multi-purpose, environmentally friendly effective fire-extinguishing gel", the component has registered with utility solution number 39587/QD-SHTT.IP; published two articles in SCIE journals, one article in Scopus journal and one prestigious national article; was evaluated as type A by the Academy-level Scientific Research Project Acceptance Council.
Professor, Dr. Thai Hoang, Institute of Materials Science, also a member of the Council for evaluating the results of the research component, commented: The test results show that the fire-fighting gel products all meet the requirements in terms of quantity, volume, type and quality, including products that exceed the quality standards. The relevant technical, technological and reference documents are updated and clearly cited.
The product testing process shows the characteristics, structural morphology and fire-fighting efficiency with high accuracy and reliability. The component has contributed well to technical and technological research related to the manufacture of new generation, multi-purpose and environmentally friendly fire-fighting gel. The above fire-fighting gel products all have potential for application in fire prevention and fighting and have high potential for commercialization.
Currently, scientists participating in this topic of the Institute of Chemistry are continuing to make research efforts, constantly improving the quality of the product before commercialization. This is an important breakthrough, aiming at a sustainable solution in researching and applying the products after research into practice.
