President Donald Trump said on June 29 that he had found a group of buyers for TikTok, an app that is facing the risk of being banned in the US due to its ties to China.
The identity of the buyer is likely to be announced within the next two weeks, he added.
In an interview on Fox's "Sunday Morning Futures," Trump said there was an interest in buying TikTok.
President Trump described the group as “very wealthy” but did not provide further details, saying he would announce the identities of the buyers in about two weeks.
President Trump also said the deal would likely require “Chinese approval” and he believes Chinese President Xi Jinping would likely agree.
By law, TikTok must cease operations in the US from January 19 if ByteDance fails to complete the sale or fails to demonstrate significant progress in the transfer process.
However, Mr. Trump, who began his second term on January 20, chose not to enforce the ban. He extended it once until early April 2025, and then again until June 19.
And on June 17, the White House confirmed that US President Donald Trump will extend for the third time by 90 days for ByteDance - the parent company of TikTok based in China - to complete the sale of the short video app's assets in the US. Accordingly, the new deadline will be pushed back to mid-September 2025./.
