The situation of drug-related crimes in the province is still complicated in most areas, the methods of the subjects are increasingly sophisticated, the nature of their activities is aggressive, reckless, ready to fight back fiercely when discovered and arrested. The situation of growing plants containing narcotics (marijuana) is recurring in some localities... Faced with the above situation, all levels and sectors in the province have stepped up anti-drug activities, especially focusing on propaganda,education and guidance on anti-drug measures.
In the first 6 months of 2025, all levels and sectors organized nearly 900 propaganda sessions for more than 71,000 people, distributed more than 14,000 leaflets on legal propaganda, produced many columns, news, articles, and reports on PCMT posted and broadcast on mass media and social networking sites, contributing to raising people's awareness of PCMT work.
Along with propaganda work, localities have built anti-drug models such as: "Drug-free ward", "Drug-free neighborhood", "Drug-free neighborhood", "Drug-free border commune", "Safe residential area with security and order, no drug abuse"... Currently, the whole province has 10 commune-level models and 26 models of groups and neighborhoods on anti-drug activities that are operating effectively.
As a core, specialized professional force, the police, customs, and border guards have synchronously deployed professional measures, organized attacks, resolutely suppressed, and destroyed many criminal networks, gangs, and complex drug and drug-related locations and hotspots, leaving no criminals behind. From 2021 to present, the authorities have detected, arrested, and handled more than 1,600 cases/2,300 subjects related to drug crimes, prosecuted more than 1,400 cases/2,100 defendants; seized more than 66 kg of heroin, 7 kg of synthetic drugs, 4 kg of opium, 1,200 cigarettes containing drugs, and many other related objects and documents.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Thang, Deputy Head of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department of the Provincial Police, in order to effectively carry out the work of PCMT, the unit has reviewed and identified areas, focused forces on deploying professional measures to combat and destroy complex drug lines and hotspots. Strengthening the effectiveness of coordination between police, border guards, and customs forces in the fight against drug crimes in border areas. In particular, improving the effectiveness of international cooperation with the functional forces of Guangxi (China) in the fight against PCMT. Therefore, in the past time, the unit has broken many major drug cases. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the unit arrested and handled 134 cases/188 subjects with drug crimes, reaching 51.5% of the target assigned by the Ministry of Public Security in 2025.
Attention has been paid to drug rehabilitation and supporting post-rehab reintegration into the community. Currently, the province has more than 1,500 drug addicts with management records, nearly 1,000 people are being treated with Methadone at 12 facilities, and nearly 300 people are being reformed at the provincial drug rehabilitation facility.
Action month on drug prevention and control in 2025 (from June 1 to 30, 2025) with the theme "One determination - For a drug-free community". Responding to the action month and aiming to better implement the goals of drug prevention and control, all levels, sectors and functional forces continue to strengthen propaganda activities on drug prevention and control; build communes and wards free of drug abuse. Organize inspections and urge the implementation of drug crime prevention work in residential areas, neighborhoods, agencies and units; grasp and strictly manage the number of drug addicts and service businesses in the area that are likely to be exploited to carry out illegal drug activities.
Strengthen the fight against and suppression of drug-related crimes; improve the quality and effectiveness of drug rehabilitation work, manage drug addicts, illegal drug users and post-rehabilitation drug addicts, contributing to the goal of "preventing supply, reducing demand and reducing the harmful effects of drugs".
