Spurs accused of illegally approaching Morgan Gibbs-White. |
Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a £60m deal to sign midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest, The Athletic reports. The club have triggered Gibbs-White's release clause and are expected to complete a medical and finalise the deal this week.
However, the London club face a strong backlash from Forest, as they consider legal action. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added that Forest are preparing to lodge a complaint with the Premier League over the transfer.
Forest have accused Tottenham of acting illegally in their approach to Gibbs-White before agreeing personal terms. Sky Sports said this led to a tense deal, causing turmoil in the transfer market, as well as in the Premier League's legal departments.
Gibbs-White has enjoyed an impressive season with seven goals and eight assists in 34 Premier League games. He has become an indispensable pillar for Forest since joining the team in 2022 from Wolves for a fee of just £25 million. Gibbs-White's rise has attracted interest from Tottenham and Manchester City.
Notably, Tottenham had a busy transfer window under new manager Thomas Frank. Less than 24 hours before reaching an agreement with Gibbs-White, the London club completed the signing of midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £54.5 million.
They also signed young Japanese defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale, while Mathys Tel, who was loaned to Bayern Munich last season, has officially joined Spurs.
