The predecessor of this school was Phung Hiep High School, located in the old Nga Bay city. Scientist Le Quy Don was born in Dien Ha village, Dien Ha district, Son Nam town (later Dong Phu village, Doc Lap commune, Hung Ha district, old Thai Binh province, now Hung Yen province). He was the greatest scholar of Vietnam in the 18th century and the pride of the entire Vietnamese nation.
The website of Le Quy Don High School, former Binh Phuoc province (now Dong Nai province) introduces the biography of scholar Le Quy Don: "Le Quy Don was originally Le Danh Phuong, courtesy name Doan Hau, nickname Que Duong, born on August 2, 1726. From a young age, he was famous for being intelligent and studious. At the age of 14, Le Quy Don followed his father to study in the capital Thang Long. At that time, the 14-year-old boy had completed all the Confucian classics and history books. At the age of 18, Le Quy Don passed the Huong exam and became Giai Nguyen. At the age of 27, he passed the Hoi Nguyen exam, then passed the Dinh Nguyen Bang Nhan exam.
After passing the exam, Le Quy Don was appointed as an official and held many important positions in the Le - Trinh dynasty, such as: Han Lam Thua Chi, who was appointed as Toan Tu Quoc Su Quan (in 1754), Han Lam Vien Thi Giang (in 1757), Doc Dong of Kinh Bac (in 1764), Thi Thu and Tu Nghiep Quoc Tu Giam (in 1767), Tan Ly Quan Vu, Thi Pho Do Ngu Su (in 1768), Cong Bo Huu Thi Lang (in 1769), Boi Tung (Deputy Prime Minister) in 1773, Lai Bo Ta Thi Lang and Tong Tai Quoc Su Quan (in 1775), Hiep Tran Tham Quan Co Tran Phu Thuan Hoa (in 1776), Hiep Tran Nghe An (in 1783), Cong Bo Thuong Thu (in 1784)...".
