After more than 100 years of development (founded in 1898) named after Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, and originally a rowing club, Vasco da Gama has developed more sports such as basketball, swimming, especially football.
Vasco da Gama officially entered the football field in 1915 and is one of the football teams with a long tradition, rich achievements, and the largest number of fans in Brazil and South America.

To date, Vasco da Gama has won 65 titles, including 4 Brazilian championships, 1 Brazilian national cup, and more than 20 Carioca titles. In the international arena, Vasco da Gama won the World Cup Libertadores da América, the South American Club Championship, and was runner-up in the Club World Cup.
Vasco da Gama is home to many world-famous players such as: Roberto Dinamite, Edmundo, Romário, Juninho Pernambucano, Bebeto, Mauro Galvão. Among them, Romário is the one who helped Brazil win the 1994 World Cup and was one of the best strikers in the world in the 1990s.

Vasco da Gama was also one of the first Brazilian clubs to fight against racism in football, and was the first major team in Brazil to recruit black players and laborers.
Despite many difficulties in recent times, the club is still one of the pillars of Brazilian football and is moving towards a new stage of development thanks to strong support from fans.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his admiration for the long history of formation, development, and great achievements of Vasco da Gama Club. According to the Prime Minister, Vasco da Gama is a beloved club of Brazilian President Lula da Silva; and has been, is, and will continue to be an indispensable part of the lives of not only the Rio de Janeiro community but also the global fan community. Estádio São Januário Stadium is not only the venue for top football matches but also the venue for many major political and cultural events in Brazil.
Vasco da Gama is not only famous for football but also a symbol of anti-racism and multiculturalism, with the philosophy of football for the people; football is not only for the rich but football is for everyone, broadly speaking, everyone has equal access to all sports.

The Prime Minister said that the football philosophy is also the philosophy and cultural identity of Brazil and is very close to Vietnamese culture, which is to always attack, fight with all your might, devote all your might, with all your intelligence, sophistication, and passion; fair competition and striving to win are necessary, but not everything; the important thing is to show dedication, enjoyment, and sharing.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said many Brazilian players have joined Vietnamese clubs, helping these clubs compete successfully, with some clubs winning championships.
Noting that Vietnamese people are passionate about football and admire Brazilian football with its "Samba dance on the field", Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the potential for cooperation in culture and sports, especially high-performance sports, including football, between Vietnam and Brazil is limitless.
The Prime Minister suggested that Brazil and Vasco da Gama Club increase cooperation activities and support Vietnam in developing football, such as training and educating players, especially improving players' physical strength and skills, improving management capacity, developing brands, mobilizing and managing resources, organizing competitions, as well as continuing to "export" Brazilian players to Vietnam and Vietnamese players to Brazil...
