Cameroon will have their first match at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Cup) on January 15. Coach Rigobert Song wants goalkeeper Andre Onana to start in this match.

According to regulations, clubs must release players from January 1, 2024, with players called up for international duty at the CAN Cup taking place from January 13 to February 11.
However, in the case of Andre Onana, the "Red Devils" have sought to negotiate with the Cameroon Football Federation to receive support in the context of difficulties in terms of personnel.
This means that Onana will still start for Man Utd in the match against Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup. Five days later, the Cameroon goalkeeper will continue to play in the big match between Man Utd and Tottenham on January 14. This is considered a very important match when the Old Trafford team aims to win to compete for a top 4 position in the Premier League this season.
Notably, if Cameroon are eliminated early in the CAN Cup, Andre Onana could return to Old Trafford in time for the FA Cup fourth round if Man Utd beat Wigan.
That means, this expensive goalkeeper will not even miss any matches of the "Red Devils" in January. However, if Cameroon plays well and reaches the final of CAN 2024, Onana will miss 4 matches for the "Red Devils".
The man expected to replace the former Inter goalkeeper is Altay Bayindir. The Turkish goalkeeper is yet to make his debut for Man Utd, having joined the club in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £4.3m from Fenerbahce.
