Railway route through Yen Bai opens from 9pm tonight (October 8)

According to information from Vietnam Railways Corporation, at around 9:00 p.m. tonight (October 8), the landslide in Yen Bai was repaired after nearly two days of urgent repair, preparing to open the entire Yen Vien - Lao Cai route.

Previously, due to prolonged heavy rain in Yen Bai province on October 6, by the morning of October 7, some infrastructure locations were damaged, making it impossible for trains to run.

The railway focused its personnel on rescue work all night at the severe landslide site at Km 180+090 - Km 180+125 on the Yen Vien - Lao Cai route, in Yen Thai commune, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province.

Specifically, at the Ngoi Hop - Mau A section of the Yen Vien - Lao Cai railway, some points had roadbeds washed away, roadbed slopes collapsed, soil and rocks filled ditches and overflowed onto the roadway; Landslides in cable trenches damaged underground signal cables. The railway had to block off the section to organize rescue and remedy the consequences.

Preliminary damage, regarding roads and bridges, Km 178+200 - Km 178+260 collapsed the positive slope on the right side of the railway route, had to ban trains at 6:30 this morning (October 7); Km 179+150 - Km 179+200 collapsed the positive slope on the right side of the railway route, soil covered the rail surface, had to ban trains from 4:15 this morning. In particular, Km 180+090 - Km 180+125 collapsed the entire roadbed, hanging sleepers at an average depth of 6m, had to ban trains at 2:10 this morning.

On October 8, the railway force continued to repair the railway in the landslide area.

Km 182+700 - Km 182+750 had a landslide on the right side of the railway, trains were banned at 2:45 this morning for repair and the speed limit was restored to 5km/h at 6:50 (with staff guiding the way); Km 183+740 - Km 183+780 had a landslide on the right side of the railway, soil covered the rail surface, trains were banned from 3:24 this morning for repair and the speed limit was restored at 4:25.

Regarding transportation, to ensure the safety of passengers and goods, Vietnam Railways Corporation has proactively stopped trains at stations along the route and banned trains from passing through this area.

Immediately after receiving the news of landslides and damage to railway infrastructure, local railway units mobilized hundreds of personnel and machinery to continuously repair the damage. By 9:00 p.m. tonight, the repair was completed, the speed limit was restored to 5km/h with a guide for the train through Km 179+950 - Km 180+250. After the construction train safely arrives at Mau A station, the section will be cleared for train H2205 to run to Ngoi Hop station, officially opening the route.
