More pressure after high school graduation exam
After the high school graduation exam, many 12th grade students in Ho Chi Minh City said they were under pressure and confused about their scores and unsure of which university to choose.
"I feel a bit sad now because my test scores are not as good as I wanted and I have to worry about choosing a school and my wishes. I also feel more pressured because I am afraid of getting lower test scores than my peers and I am worried about what to do if my scores are low," said Dinh Nguyen Ngoc Hanh, a 12th grade student at Han Thuyen High School, Phu Nhuan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Phu Nhuan District).
Meanwhile, Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Vy, a student at Ly Thuong Kiet High School in Dong Thanh Commune, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Hoc Mon District), said that when she was reviewed, she always did "very well" in class and was quite confident in her abilities, but her exam performance was not as expected. Vy was worried that she would fail her first choice or worse, not be able to pass any of her choices. "I considered the D01 combination (math, literature, English) with the hope of passing the entrance exam to Saigon University (Ho Chi Minh City)," Vy said.
After the elective exam, many candidates said that this year's physics and chemistry test was quite easy and they were confident of getting high scores, while for English, they could only aim for an average score. This is also what makes many candidates considering the combination of math and English afraid of getting lower scores than those considering only the combination of physics and chemistry, such as A00 (math, physics, chemistry), including Thanh Vy, a female student who expected to only get a score of 5-6 in math and English.
Expectations for admission are based on transcripts
Faced with exams for some subjects considered difficult, many candidates shared that they no longer put too much hope in high school graduation exam scores for university admission. Instead, some candidates chose to shift their hopes to other admission methods, including using academic records, as in the case of Ngoc Hanh, a female student who wishes to study at Saigon University.
Le An Quynh, a 12th grade student at Trung Lap High School, Thai My Commune, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Cu Chi District), shared that she chose the admission combination C00 (literature, history, geography). An said she was quite looking forward to her exam scores, especially the literature score because she had performed quite well in that test, but she was still worried because she was quite vague about her score. Although she had completed the exam quite well, according to An, her biggest hope was still to be admitted based on her transcript because she was worried that her high school graduation exam score was not competitive enough.
Although not under too much pressure about the score in the high school graduation exam, Ho Ngoc Phuong Vy, a student at Han Thuyen High School, Phu Nhuan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Phu Nhuan District), confessed that she knew her own ability so she just hoped to have enough points to graduate. Vy added that she had previously consulted the admission scores of universities in previous years and was quite confident in her high school transcript scores, so she thought she still had a chance to pass the university entrance exam by considering her transcript.
