BHG - Having just returned from Hanoi to her beloved Ha Giang, despite her busy schedule, journalist Doan Huong Giang still took the time to meet us to share about her difficult but proud journey as a journalist. According to her: In 2009, I was a fresh graduate from the College of Television, leaving the plains to go to the mountains, starting a trial period at the News Department of the old Ha Giang Radio and Television Station, now Ha Giang Newspaper. At that time, the person who directly guided and guided her in her first steps in the profession was a brother, who is currently the department's leader. The knowledge accumulated from the classroom cannot always be applied to real work, but it is the observation, constant learning and efforts to find her own way that have helped her gradually make her mark. Her first visual journalism works such as "The Village Midwife" and "The Village Poverty Eradicator" were commented by colleagues as "unique and creative" in both the way they exploited the topic and the way they were expressed, not only impressing with the title, but also with the depth of content, rich in emotion and humanity.

2014 was a big turning point for the station, when the provincial TV channel broadcast via Vinasat satellite, increasing the program duration to 18 hours per day. The Special Topics Department was established, separated from the News Department. Journalist Huong Giang was one of the first 9 people to move to the new department. Unlike the news department, which reflects quickly and concisely, the special topics department is a deeper area, with more contemplation and also more challenges. A 5 to 45 minute program cannot be made from just a few interviews or available documents. That means she and her colleagues have to go further, stay longer with the base, stick to reality, to "eat together, live together, work together" with the people. Thanks to that, information and data are abundant, rich and even not available anywhere else.

Journalist Huong Giang expressed: “I know and am remembered by many people, and keep in touch with them. There are trips that become unforgettable milestones. Like the time working in Dong Van, thanks to the close relationship with the cadres and people, I was introduced to a new way of doing things, condensing the Party's resolution on one A4 sheet of paper, only underlining the short, easy-to-remember, easy-to-implement points. That is the way the Political Commissar of Lung Cu Border Guard Station proposed to help ethnic minorities understand and follow the Party's policies. Simple but effective, the work "One-page Resolution" was born, received, spread strongly and won the Encouragement Prize of the 9th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award in 2024.

In September 2021, journalist Huong Giang was trusted by the Party Committee, the Editorial Board of Ha Giang Newspaper, the department leaders and her colleagues to be appointed Deputy Head of the Special Topics Department, and then Head of the Arts and Entertainment Department. In her role as department leader, she not only participates in the work, but also takes on the work of an editor, and is also an exemplary "locomotive" in building a strong collective. Despite the heavier responsibilities, she still takes the time to listen, share, and encourage each individual to promote a spirit of open-mindedness and constant innovation. Thereby, contributing to improving professional quality, creating close cohesion in the department.

Comrade Ngo Duy Quang, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ha Giang Newspaper, commented: “Journalist Doan Huong Giang is a person who loves her job, carries within her a fire of enthusiasm, dedication, exploration and has many creative ideas in the process of journalism. At the same time, she always helps her colleagues and maintains the trust of the people. With the exemplary, modest and gentle behavior of a true journalist, she does not think about herself, but wholeheartedly devotes herself to the development of the agency. Journalist Huong Giang is also the first person in the generation of young journalists of Ha Giang Newspaper today to be honored as a national outstanding journalist. Her example is a source of pride for the press team in the border areas on the journey of integration”.

Not only that, after 16 years of working, she has received many Certificates of Merit and noble awards from the province to the Central level, typically: Certificate of Merit from the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee for outstanding achievements in the emulation movement to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day; Encouragement Prize of the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award and Dien Hong Award in 2024; 1 work entered the final round of the National Press Award in 2025 along with many A and B awards at the provincial level.

Journalist Huong Giang shared emotionally: “Meeting the leaders of the Party and State on the special occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day is a great honor. Hearing the words of encouragement and expectations of comrades for the team of journalists makes me see more clearly the responsibility and meaning of the work I am pursuing. In the historical context of the country, of my homeland, everything will change, overcoming the initial concerns, I told myself that I would have to “upgrade” myself to meet the new requirements of the current tasks”.
