Qatar Airways plane encountered turbulence while flying from Doha to Ireland - Illustration photo
Qatar Airways' Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed safely and on schedule at around 7:00 p.m. on May 26 (Vietnam time) at Dublin Airport, Ireland.
Previously, this flight encountered turbulence, injuring 12 people on board.
"Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services such as airport security and fire services, as six passengers and six crew members (12 in total) were injured after the aircraft encountered turbulence while flying over Türkiye," Reuters news agency quoted Dublin Airport as saying.
Irish broadcaster RTE quoted passengers on the plane as saying the incident lasted less than 20 seconds and happened while the flight crew was serving food and drinks.
Qatar Airways said a small number of passengers and crew members suffered minor injuries and received medical attention.
Qatar Airways did not comment on the details of the incident, saying only that the matter was under internal investigation.
The incident comes five days after a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok due to turbulence, killing a 73-year-old British passenger and hospitalising 20 others.
According to a 2021 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NHTSA), turbulence-related aviation accidents are the most common.
From 2009 to 2018, NHTSA recorded turbulence in more than one-third of all reported aviation accidents. Most of those incidents resulted in serious injuries, but no damage to the aircraft.
