(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - The 2025 Rural and Agricultural Census has officially launched nationwide. In Quang Ngai, a locality that has just merged its administrative area with Kon Tum, the survey work is facing many challenges. The large scale of the survey, the fragmented terrain and the scattered population are factors that make data collection difficult. However, with high determination and careful preparation, the grassroots investigators have begun this important data collection journey.
This census focuses on units participating in agricultural, forestry and fishery activities such as households, farms, enterprises, cooperatives and commune-level authorities. Quang Ngai, after the merger, covered all 96 communes, wards and special zones, with 349,301 households. Of which, more than 346,000 households were surveyed in full, 1,770 households were sampled, and nearly 1,000 households were surveyed in depth on sustainable agricultural production.
Mr. Vo Thanh Nhan, Head of the Quang Ngai Statistics Office, said: We have prepared for this general census in 2024. Organize training for investigators. With the merger of the province, we also arranged a force of members along with investigators to the base to promptly handle arising issues as well as promptly pressurize investigators to collect information accurately and quickly. Ensure that the information on the questionnaire is accurate and ends on July 30.
The investigators visited the households and recorded 10 basic information groups such as: population, labor, land for production, crops, livestock, machinery, agricultural services, income, etc. For the sampled households, additional information was added on production support and sustainable development. Initially, the people cooperated in providing accurate and honest information. The investigators collected statements urgently to ensure the set progress.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Quy, in Phuoc Giang commune, Quang Ngai province, said: The State has announced and implemented, so we will comply. Whatever is asked, we will provide. Ensure accurate information and take responsibility for the information we provide .
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Dien, an investigator in Phuoc Giang commune, Quang Ngai province, shared: As for me, I inform the people. Because we are also from the hometown, we know each other. For households that work at noon, I take advantage of early morning or late afternoon. I can also arrange to go in the evening if people work all day outside.
In the communes in the western region of Quang Ngai (formerly Kon Tum ), the investigation work was also carried out urgently from the first day of the campaign. Of the total 1,072 investigators in this area, most were village officials and local people who understood the customs, language, and terrain, making it easier to approach households in the highlands. This census applied modern technology in the form of collecting information using mobile electronic devices, limiting the use of paper forms, so the information collection was more convenient and faster.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phong, investigator of Sa Thay commune, Quang Ngai province, said: Previously, collecting data on paper was more laborious, had to be written down and stored before submitting for statistics. Now we enter, synchronize and send data to the server.
Mr. Nguyen Van Doan, in Nhon Khanh village, Sa Thay commune, Quang Ngai province, said: We must provide accurate information to the investigators so that future policies will be appropriate for the people...
The 2025 Rural and Agricultural Census is the foundation for a comprehensive assessment of the current situation of agricultural, forestry and fishery production and the lives of rural residents. From there, a suitable development strategy can be built in the new period, especially after the merger of Quang Ngai province, when the development space is more open and the potential is more diverse than ever.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ngai province, said: This census will provide a complete, updated and accurate picture of the production structure, level of mechanization, level of access to e-commerce, as well as farmers' support needs. This is an important basis for the agricultural sector to build sustainable development policies, especially in remote areas and ethnic minority areas...
With the participation of more than 2,800 investigators in Quang Ngai, the census is being implemented urgently, systematically, and on schedule. The numbers collected from the grassroots will be an important basis for formulating policies for sustainable agricultural and rural development. The Rural and Agricultural Census will end on July 30, 2025.
