From July 1, 2025, the whole country officially switched to a two-tier local government model including provinces/cities and communes/wards/towns, eliminating the district and county levels. The national database system has updated new personal information for people on the VNeID application, including hometown and permanent address according to the new administrative boundaries. Immediately after this change, on social networks, many accounts shared information taken from ID cards that had been updated according to the new standards and new local names after the province merger process.
However, cybersecurity experts warn that this seemingly harmless action poses a huge risk: personal data is leaked, and can be used by criminals to commit fraud, forgery, or property appropriation. Experts recommend that people stay alert when using social networks, and absolutely do not share images of their ID cards or any personal documents on public platforms.
