According to director - Meritorious Artist Ho Ngoc Xum, although the film is about war and revolution, due to difficult production conditions, the crew only recreated a small part of the war. Those are just memories, small slices of the 1968 Tet Offensive and Uprising.
For this reason, the film will not have scenes recreating major battles, just small-scale confrontations between us and the enemy.
Director Ho Ngoc Xum shares about the film's theme
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung - General Director of Giai Phong Film Joint Stock Company also added that during the production process, the crew also made up many fictional parts to make the film more attractive.
Notably, in the film, besides the fierce atmosphere of the 1968 war, the crew also included the Nam Xuan song - one of the typical songs of Southern amateur music.
"In my opinion, this integration has great significance. Because, in the midst of war like this, the sound of music and singing will soothe and make us feel less fierce about the war," Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung shared.
Director Ho Ngoc Xum also revealed an interesting detail, every time the instrument is played, it is also a signal of peace.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung - General Director of Giai Phong Film Joint Stock Company spoke at the launching ceremony.
Taking on the male lead role in the film, actor Minh Luan said that this role caused him many difficulties.
Having never experienced the war years, to understand that historical period, he had to research a lot of historical documents, from which he could better understand the life, activities, and fighting of the officers, soldiers, and people of that time.
Although he had to transform into the character in two different stages, he was satisfied with his performance.
Minh Luan also said that not only he but also the actors admitted that this is a movie with a good script.
The main actors of the film interact with guests and audience
Nam Xuan Memories revolves around the main character Hung Thien (played by Minh Luan) - a suicide soldier of the Southern Liberation Army. While recuperating at Mr. Nam Don's (Meritorious Artist Duc Son) house after being hunted down by the enemy, Hung Thien and My Le (Thien Thu) blossomed into love out of sympathy and shared aspirations. However, everything changed completely when Hung Thien was captured and exiled to Con Dao.
Thinking that her lover was no longer alive, My Le followed her family to live abroad. When the war ended and Hung Thien returned to normal life, he still had to bear the injustice of being repatriated, causing his spirit to decline even more, and he decided to live a closed life with his adopted son.
Only when the honor of the loyal revolutionary soldier was cleared, along with finding his own happiness, albeit late, was Hung Thien truly revived, thanks to the miraculous connection of Nam Xuan village.
