Synchronous development of Vietnam's tourist destinations - Advantages from merging provinces and cities

(PLVN) - Although they all share convenient transportation routes and beautiful natural scenery, many tourist destinations in Vietnam are still deserted. On the contrary, there are provinces and localities that are constantly "full" of rooms, welcoming tens of thousands of tourists, receiving compliments from international friends. With the merger of provinces and cities, it promises to develop synchronously tourist destinations in the future.

According to the report of Ninh Binh Department of Tourism (before the merger), in the first 6 months of 2025 alone, Ninh Binh tourism industry served more than 7.2 million visitors, reaching nearly 80% of the yearly plan. Of which, international visitors reached more than 1 million. Notably, the number of overnight guests reached nearly 1.4 million, an increase of more than 21% over the same period in 2024. In June alone, Ninh Binh welcomed more than 660,000 visitors, earning nearly 718 billion VND.

It must be said that in 2025, Ninh Binh province's tourism industry has promoted its strong products, bearing the province's own unique characteristics. In early 2025, spiritual tourism to explore cultural and historical destinations, such as Trang An - Bai Dinh, Hang Mua, ancient temples, etc., has become an attractive destination for domestic tourists.

Another province that has invested heavily in developing unique and new tourist destinations to attract visitors is the former Kien Giang province (after the merger it became An Giang province). According to the report in May, the province welcomed more than 7 million visitors, reaching 64.4% of the yearly plan, of which international visitors were estimated to welcome nearly 900 thousand, reaching 74.3% of the yearly plan. Total revenue was about 29 billion VND, exceeding the yearly plan by 1.8%.

Ngoc Island is the highlight of this place. Possessing a long stretch of green beach along the golden sand, Ngoc Island not only relies on nature, but also invests in entertainment areas, attractive sea activities, and pearl production facilities to create many tourism products for visitors to experience.

Synchronously develop tourist destinations after merger

From July 1 this year, after the merger, the whole country has 34 provincial administrative units including 6 centrally-run cities. This is a great opportunity for tourist destinations to create a linked region, together promote tourism development and attract visitors in the near future.

Like Phu Quy island district, the old Binh Thuan province became a special zone of the new Lam Dong province on the basis of merging Tam Thanh, Ngu Phung and Long Hai communes. It is known that Phu Quy is a new and attractive tourist destination in Vietnam in the past few years. Phu Quy has left a mark in the hearts of tourists thanks to its wild beauty, with many unique coral diving activities in the sea.

Despite its great potential, Phu Quy tourism has not yet developed to its full potential. Tourism services and products here are still limited. The merger of Phu Quy into a special economic zone under Lam Dong province has helped this place receive more investment and attention to infrastructure, supporting economic development.

Sharing with the media, Mr. Le Hong Loi - Chairman of Phu Quy Special Zone People's Committee said that the attention of the Central and Government to turn Phu Quy into a special zone is very important. The special zone will have its own characteristics, thereby creating conditions to continue the tasks of building Phu Quy to develop more and more in the future.

Another attractive “young” destination is Vinh Hy (formerly part of Ninh Thuan province). Vinh Hy is a pristine destination with beautiful scenery and crystal clear beaches. In recent years, Vinh Hy has become an attractive destination for young people from home and abroad. However, Vinh Hy is losing points due to poor tourism services, lack of quality accommodation, and limited parking.

Apart from swimming, diving, and night market activities, Vinh Hy does not have many tourism products to "keep" visitors for a long time. With the merger of Ninh Thuan province into Khanh Hoa, a leading tourism province in Vietnam, it is promising that in the future, Vinh Hy Bay with its wild beauty, diverse ecosystem, and attractions such as Ca Voi Cape, Hon Tai, and Yen Cave will be added to the famous tourist destinations of Khanh Hoa such as Nha Trang, Doc Let, Bai Dai, etc.
