Trump promises to "split" Russia-China cooperation if he wins the election

(Dan Tri) - Republican candidate Donald Trump said that if he wins this year's election, he will split the cooperation between Russia and China because it harms the United States.

At an event in Glendale, Arizona, Trump accused US President Joe Biden of having policies that have brought Russia and China closer together in recent times. He pledged to break up the cooperation between the two nuclear powers if elected in the November 5 election. Trump also accused Biden of affecting America's position in the international arena. "Look at what these people have done. They have allowed Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and others to come together as a group," Trump said. He said that one of his professors at the Wharton School of Finance told him that "the one thing you never want to happen is Russia and China working together". "The United States got them working together for oil. Biden has got them together. It's a shame. I'm going to split them up and I think I can do it," Trump said, without giving details of his plan. He also expressed concerns about the future of the US dollar in international trade. "These people are making the dollar lose its status. If the dollar is no longer the standard, it's like losing a war," he said. Russia and China are members of several regional groups, including the BRICS group of emerging economies and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Both countries describe their relationship as a strategic partnership and have worked together to counter what they call US "unilateralism" on the international stage. China has so far remained neutral in Russia's war in Ukraine, not participating in Western sanctions against Moscow. The West has cut off Russia's central bank from dollar transactions as part of a broader campaign of sanctions against Moscow. Russia and other BRICS members have switched to using their national currencies for 65% of their trade with each other, Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month. About 90% of Russia's trade with its largest trading partner, China, is conducted in the two countries' currencies, according to Putin. This is not the first time Trump has raised concerns about the US dollar losing its global status. In August, he threatened to impose 100% tariffs on countries that stop using the greenback if he is elected. "You give up the dollar and you stop trading with the United States because we will impose 100% tariffs on your goods," he said. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, said options include export controls, currency manipulation charges and tariffs. Trump has said he wants the dollar to remain the world 's reserve currency. Although the dollar's dominance has declined in recent decades, the US currency still accounted for 59% of official foreign exchange reserves in the first quarter of 2024, while the euro was second with nearly 20%, according to the International Monetary Fund.
