On June 30, in Can Tho City, the Central Government announced the Prime Minister 's Decision on appointing Mr. Tran Van Lau, Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (new) for the 2020-2025 term, to hold the position of Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee (new) for the 2021-2026 term from July 1, 2025.

The new Vice Chairmen of Can Tho City People's Committee include: Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep and Messrs. Vuong Quoc Nam, Nguyen Van Khoi, Nguyen Van Hoa, and Nguyen Chi Hung.

Can Tho City (new) is an administrative unit directly under the Central Government established after the merger of 3 localities: Can Tho City, Soc Trang Province and Hau Giang Province.
