The HC1 underpass is 480 m long, has 4 lanes with a total investment of 341 billion VND, and is one of the important items of the An Phu intersection. The project has just been opened to traffic, allowing cars to travel in both directions, with two lanes in each direction. However, motorbikes and containers are not allowed to travel through the tunnel.
Vehicles started to circulate stably through the tunnel from 12 noon on June 30.

Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) said: The opening of the HC1-01 tunnel will create conditions for the investor and construction units to reorganize traffic in the area, in which 2 lanes will be occupied on the cross-section of Mai Chi Tho Street on both sides of the tunnel to organize the construction of two overpass branches N3 and N4 (when completed, these two bridge branches will connect to the two units of the Giong Ong To bridge completed in the previous phase).
The underpass has a total length of 455m, a width of 20m, a cross-section of 4 lanes (2 car lanes in each direction) with a total of 19 tunnel segments (including 4 closed tunnel segments with a total length of 80m and 15 open tunnel segments with a total length of 375m).
The opening of the HC1-01 underpass also contributes to traffic flow, traffic organization, and traffic improvement in the construction area of the N3 and N4 overpasses of the An Phu intersection.
The tunnel is designed with lighting system, fire protection, traffic signs and drainage pumping station, flood prevention for the tunnel.
According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, along with the opening of the HC1-01 underpass, the Traffic Department will continue to urge the supervising consultant and construction contractors to increase human resources and equipment to speed up the construction progress of the HC1-02 underpass, the N2, N1.1, N1.3 overpass branches... to soon put them into operation and serve the people in the near future.
Putting the first tunnel branch into operation right at the peak of summer and Ho Chi Minh City merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau will greatly help reduce pressure on the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.
For the 6 packages that have not yet started construction, including: construction of the intersection surface, pedestrian bridges, green trees, traffic lighting, camera systems, billboards, and construction of the central tower, the investor plans to start construction simultaneously in the third quarter.
Officially opened underpass at the largest intersection in Ho Chi Minh City
When the entire An Phu intersection is completed and put into service, it will synchronize with the My Thuy intersection, greatly reducing the traffic load in the area to Cat Lai port. Along with the plan to start the inter-port road, expand the connecting road to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, the eastern gateway of the city will be expanded and cleared in the future.
The An Phu Intersection Project has a total investment of VND3,400 billion, including three traffic levels (underpass, ground level and overpass), expected to be completed this year to contribute to reducing congestion and increasing traffic capacity for the eastern gateway area of the city.
