After two months of delay, the 4-lane underpass at An Phu intersection officially opened to traffic on June 30. The underpass is the main item in the An Phu intersection construction project - one of the largest and most modern intersections in Ho Chi Minh City today.
The tunnel is about 14m wide, with 4 two-way traffic lanes, connecting from the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection to Thu Thiem tunnel and vice versa. The maximum speed in the tunnel is 50km/h, except for motorbikes and containers that are not allowed to pass through the tunnel.
Each tunnel has two lanes, slightly curved in the middle, with a closed tunnel about 18m deep from the road surface.
The tunnel is fully equipped with safety and utility items such as fire protection system, traffic signs, modern drainage, and flood prevention.

The steel railing of the tunnel is more than a meter high, fashioned with many patterns.
The underpass consists of 4 closed sections of 80m long and 15 open sections, with a total length of about 375m. Immediately after the opening, construction units will continue to reorganize traffic on Mai Chi Tho axis to deploy the construction of two overpass branches N3 and N4. These two bridge branches will connect to two units of Giong Ong To bridge - a previously completed item.
Signs are installed at both ends of the tunnel. The opening of the underpass helps to organize traffic flow and improve congestion in this area.
In addition to the tunnel that has just been opened to traffic, the project also has another underpass under construction, connecting directly from the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway to Mai Chi Tho Avenue. Once completed, the two tunnels will be connected into a two-way traffic system, allowing cars to run continuously from the expressway to the Thu Thiem tunnel and vice versa.
Currently, the lanes on the cross-section of Mai Chi Tho Street (both sides of the tunnel) are still fenced off to serve the construction of the remaining two overpass branches to serve the construction of other items.
Upon completion, An Phu will be a strategic intersection, connecting a series of important traffic routes such as Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Mai Chi Tho Avenue, Luong Dinh Cua, Nguyen Thi Dinh and Dong Van Cong streets.

The newly put into operation underpass is the first item of the An Phu intersection project - a key traffic project that started construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND.
An Phu is a strategic intersection, connecting a series of important traffic routes such as Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, Mai Chi Tho Avenue, Luong Dinh Cua, Nguyen Thi Dinh and Dong Van Cong streets. This is also the gateway to Cat Lai Port – the largest container port in the country in terms of cargo volume – with an average traffic of more than 20,000 container trucks per day.
