On September 3, in Ho Chi Minh City, the opening ceremony of the 12th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO) in 2025 took place with the theme "Shaping the future of tourism: Towards digital transformation and transformation".
This is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has hosted TPO. The program is part of the Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Fair 2025 - ITE HCMC, bringing together leaders of TPO member cities and experts from around the world .
Ho Chi Minh City's commitment to tourism development
In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, informed that Ho Chi Minh City is one of the founding cities and the only city in Vietnam to hold the role of member of the TPO Executive Board.
According to Mr. Duoc, in the journey of more than two decades, Ho Chi Minh City has always been proud to actively contribute to the organization's activities, promote linkages and cooperation in tourism development among members, affirming its central role in tourism development in the region.
Hosting this TPO General Assembly is an important milestone, clearly demonstrating Ho Chi Minh City's responsibility and commitment to promoting regional tourism to develop synchronously, creatively and sustainably.
"We believe that Ho Chi Minh City's pioneering initiative in the joint statement of this General Assembly will continue to be maintained and developed in the following activities to strengthen the connection between members of the organization according to the common goal we are aiming for," said Mr. Duoc.
Looking further at Ho Chi Minh City tourism in the face of new opportunities, Mr. Duoc said the city is expanding its scale after the administrative merger, aiming to build the city into an "international megacity"; and one of the five pillars that will help the city develop rapidly in the coming time is tourism.
Expect to find many solutions to apply digital technology and develop tourism
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Kang Da-eun, Secretary General of TPO, Secretary General of the Global Cities Tourism Promotion Organization, shared that the theme of this year's TPO is towards digital transformation and green transformation, reflecting the challenges and opportunities.
"Digital transformation strengthens connectivity and enhances experiences, while green transformation ensures sustainable and inclusive growth. With this orientation, tourism will become a strong driving force for prosperity and development of member cities," said Ms. Kang Da-eun.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, digital transformation and green transformation are two important pillars and strategies that impact the structure, identity and sustainable development direction of the global tourism industry towards the 17 sustainable development criteria of the United Nations.
According to the department, Ho Chi Minh City, implementing digital transformation and green transformation helps improve competitiveness, attract high-quality visitors and create long-term added value, promote innovation, apply technology in destination management, measure emissions and orient responsible tourism consumption.
The agenda of this TPO General Assembly meeting, with seminars, forums, etc., focuses on solutions for applying digital technology and developing sustainable tourism, helping Ho Chi Minh City update trends and build appropriate tourism strategies.
Important lever for Vietnamese businesses to connect directly with global partner network
