Bac Ai farmers in cashew harvest season

Việt NamViệt Nam21/04/2024

These days, going to the mountainous district of Bac Ai, traveling on routes 705, 707 along the hillsides from Phuoc Trung commune to Phuoc Chinh, Phuoc Hoa, Phuoc Binh communes... it is easy to see people busy harvesting cashew nuts.

The whole district has over 1,490 hectares of cashew. Although it is not the main crop, cashew trees are helping people in the mountainous communes of Bac Ai district earn a significant income. In addition, cashew trees also contribute to greening barren land and hills, increasing forest cover. Along with households in Phuoc Hoa commune, these days, Mrs. Chamaléa Thi Ly's family in Ta Lot village is entering the cashew harvest season. Mrs. Ly said: My family's cashew plantation has over 400 trees, planted on an area of nearly 1.4 hectares of hillside land. Last year, my family earned nearly 15 million VND from selling cashew nuts. Entering this year's cashew crop, my family has harvested 67kg in two batches, with a fairly high selling price, ranging from 23,500-24,000 VND/kg. Sharing the same joy as Mrs. Ly's family, Mr. Katơr Thuận's family in Cha Panh village is also busy harvesting over 1.2 hectares of cashew nuts. Mr. Thuan shared: This year's cashew harvest was nearly 2 months later than last year. The time when the cashew trees flowered was hot and sunny, so the fruit set rate was lower than last year. However, thanks to Truecoop Organic Cashew Cooperative's purchase at a stable price, the family has more income.

Farmers in Bac Ai district are harvesting cashew nuts.

Ms. Ngo Thi Cuc, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Ai district, said: For the mountainous district of Bac Ai, growing cashew on sloping land and hills is considered a reasonable farming solution, not only helping people increase their income, but also contributing to greening bare land and hills, increasing forest cover. In the coming time, the department recommends that localities mobilize people to focus on caring for and renovating cashew gardens, especially old cashew areas, replacing them with high-yield grafted cashew varieties. In addition, continue to promote links with businesses to consume products, helping cashew growers have stable output and increase income.
