Young people review books in sign language

The April Festival is an annual event of Xa Dan Secondary School, where 60% of the students are deaf and mute. This year, the school chose a book introduction competition with creative activities by the students.

Groups of students chose works learned in the secondary school curriculum to introduce with paintings, animations, and vivid models. They even recreated a corner of Hanoi's old quarter, Hanoi's signature dish, Com Vong, when reviewing the work "Hanoi's Delicious Food", or the scene where the king returned the sword to the golden turtle god in the legend of Hoan Kiem Lake...

Interestingly, the students who were chosen to present their books all used sign language. Among them, there were normal students, some who could hear the phone, and some who communicated entirely using sign language. And perhaps that is why sign language became the common language of communication here.

Students also performed, introduced books, interacted with each other, and students in the food and handicraft areas also used sign language.

According to teachers, encouraging students to read books and reenact works through scenes and competitions is a way to change teaching methods.

Within the festival, there are outdoor library corners displaying books so that students can access good books that are age-appropriate.

Mr. Pham Van Hoan, principal of Xa Dan Secondary School, also shared that he and his colleagues are very interested in festivals like this for disabled students because it encourages their spirit and helps children integrate better with their surrounding living environment.
